Hodgson is tactically inept and stubbornly rigid. There is no Plan B, because he doesn't know what a Plan B is. Edited by southnorwoodhill (30 Dec 2018 1.59pm)

Boring timid tactics. I hate watching Palace play like this. We should have had a right go at them at home. Why is our playing at home mentality/tactics like that of an away game?

Looked like Roy hodgsons England today. Dead performance with late subs again. Sit behind the ball and soak up pressure until we give the ball away and concede. Poor

Roy doesnt give start anyone unless they are fully fit, he proved that with Meyer. Wickham still cant play for more than half an hour, he isnt fit yet. Until he is, he will just be a 2nd half sub. It isnt poor management, its smart management... Good to see Wickham has settled into the role of big striker who causes problems and cant finish even now! Him and Benteke with Wilf and Andros on the wing is going to be amazing though, 2nd half of the season should be a lot more fun than the 1st...

That’s because he is not a striker. He had 15 minutes out wide and looked better than he did in the first half. The whole team looks better with Wilf out wide and Wickham (or even Benteke) up front. We look so much more balanced, and have an outlet so that we’re not constantly on the back foot. People asking for Wickham to start are nuts. He’s had maybe 60 minutes in two years because of injuries.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

With Meyer and Wickham on we started to look as if we could hurt them. But you can't do it if you start with 75 minutes on the clock and a goal down. That was the team we needed at 0 - 0, if not from the start then certainly from half time.

This game was over defensive from the start. Not Palace's style. Played into Chelsea's hands. Agree that maybe Meyer and Wickham needed resting, but start with them, don't end with them, a goal down and 15 minutes to go. The last ten minutes showed how we could have really upset their game. I feel that this game-plan by Roy was cowardly and uninspiring for the crowd and the players. Giving Meyer only a few minutes was stupid. We need him in the midfield creating opportunities. Roy messed this one up.

A dreadful, insipid display at home. I don't care about losing to Chelsea, that was always the likely result, the manner in which we've done it though is infuriating. We set out to defend from the first minute as though we were nursing a narrow lead in the dying minutes and offered no threat the entire match until the last few minutes. The Zaha up front experiment needs to stop with immediate effect. It absolutely negates the attacking threat of our best player and I am at a loss as to why he is persisting with it. Even if he doesn't rate our strikers, surely better to have one of them playing if only to get Zaha in his correct position? Meyer offered more in 12 minutes than Schlupp did in 78 and needs to start the next match. Wickham missed a good chance, just as he did against Cardiff, but at least he is getting in the positions. No surprise whatsoever that he is rusty and with more minutes he'll get sharper. IF he's fit enough he needs to start ASAP. No point even talking about how late the substitutions came because it's like a broken record. The subs should have been made the second Kante scored, we might have nicked a draw if they had. Great post, totally spot on about today. Must of been terrible for the fans to endure. Why didn't we at least have a go like Watford ?

Not very entertaining. I feel sorry for those who attended the game. Normally we find a way to create chances in these games even when sitting deep, but today we looked slow at getting forward and Zaha can't hold the ball up. Chelsea deserved the win. Wickham posed questions with his physical presence and if he can stay fit will be a much better lone striker than Wilf, especially in games where we are penned in.
