Damn right Funty.

Premiership footballers like Sterling are paid obscene levels of money. We know it isn't the only bloated profession and we know it's only bloated at the very top...but it's true all the same.

I'm all for people making money and doing well for themselves and productive people are a net plus benefit to society.

But....

There are certain professions where the level of reward is in far excess of the value within society.....some people say well that's the market but I say then that the market is out of sync....A good nurse in many senses is more valuable than a footballer will ever be.....Jimmy Hill has something to answer for.

So....yes players like Sterling should be paid well....but he's is way overpaid so Sterling can cry about the grief he gets in his gold leaf slippers.

He has far more power than those criticising him have.

I agree but in Stirling's case, despite his money, he is probably still that little boy who saw very bad times.

My stepmother has been very well off for years but she still saves leftover food. Sometimes you just can't escape your past however lucky you find yourself later on. I'm guessing that Stirling still feels the past on his back when he is attacked.

If I was him, I would buy another sports car, smile and recognise that I don't have to worry any more.

a) It's the market rate. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

No one hates Sterling that I can see anyway....they just think he's a whiney s***e....To me he's just another one playing grievance politics based on skin colour.

But way more importantly...

b) Why does any amount of wealth automatically make you happy/immune from the affects of being on the end of constant abuse on a very public scale? No amount of money can make you immune from it affecting your mental health.

It doesn't, it just makes it less important......Money is a great advantage in life....No, it's the biggest advantage in life. So while I don't support 'over the top' abuse any player gets on the football pitch....I also see it as the rough with the smooth....these people are on the weekend probably after a s*** week at a lousy job getting rid of their frustrations....I don't like it, but I understand it....As long as they don't touch anybody I'd rather tell them to grow up than punish them.

These footballers wages are made up from these people's pockets, aresholes or not. These are the people that most of these footballers come from...... and now they want to disenfranchise them as well.

And as for the newspapers....I think that's a complete nonsense....look at what Gascoigne gets and has always got.

Yet we have to listen to 'Oh the racism' because it's Sterling....give me a break.

I genuinely do understand and get your point on the second part and see how and why people think thing. I just think everyone has a breaking point and this was it.

I disagree immensely with the 'whining' part though. This is literally the first time he's publicly spoken out about it after getting it in the neck for years.

I think everyone would have more sympathy if the race card had been left at home.
A few bellends at a football match does not mean that Britain is racist. The evidence suggests the complete opposite and in a time when there are many excuses to be 'racist'.

Yep, you're probably right....I'll retract that....I'm more referring to the general 'is it because I'm black' stuff that I'm so cynical about. I'm tarring Sterling with the same brush when this is the first time I've heard it from him.

Still, he's playing into the same narrative......But he has a point over the abuse he and lots of footballers get at grounds.

It can get over the top and I don't like it either.....Stewards should be sorting that out and calming it down.

If I'm in the crowd and I hear someone call the opposition player a 'w***er' I view it as just what crowds do.....when I see people screaming in someone's face at the corner line....that shouldn't be happening.

I never blamed Cantona....I love Palace but I'd have patted him on the back and said, 'just ignore them son'.

Oh come on, not again. His point and the reason he spoke out was about the press treatment and issue in general of how black players are reported on versus white players.

And most people I've spoken to about it have a hell of a lot of sympathy with him despite the 'race card' coming out.

I've already stated why I believe that the race angle is off the mark in respect of the press. Do you read threads?
He is as much a victim of how black culture portrays itself as anything else.

Look at the difference in how Gascgoine and Sterling have conducted themselves as professionals - it’s a woeful comparison.

That is your subjective opinion. Are you suggesting that Sterling isn't deserving of criticism? I certainly disagree with you.

What has he done that's deserving of criticism to the extent that Gazza did?

Thanks, I’ll be sure to point it out every time you give your subjective opinion on something as well.

I think you can very objectively compare the conduct of Gascgoine and Sterling as professionals, and they are miles apart.

I’ve never said that Sterling isn’t deserving of criticism, nor that it’s racist to criticise him.
