We play good football without Benteke in the team as we don't go for the easy option of hoofing the ball into the box. Ideally i'd like to see a more dynamic, strong forward come in who could fit the style we played Saturday, a Josh King type of player.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Looks like one of the most exciting acquired prospects we've had in years to me. Indeed. And people still say "give Johnny Williams a chance". While I think Williams has something to offer (though not to us ATM) Meyer is a cut above. Genuine quality, pedigree, and potential to be a top player. When we find our feet as a team, he will be one of the ones to make the difference for us. Now if we only had a striker that could score...

IMO Meyer is the player that JW dreams of being. However without a striker to feed neither of them could be expected to realise their full potential.

Ray Lewington was guest speaker at the Supporters' Trust AGM on Monday and I took the opportunity to ask him what Meyer's best position was. He ran through the positions that aren't his best: defensive midfielder (not strong enough in the tackle); wide right (prefers not to play there); or in the No.10 role (he doesn't like playing there). He concluded that the position he played at Old Trafford was his best (essentially on the left side of a midfield four). Ray also suggested that the performance at Old Trafford had been very good and the shirt was more or less his to lose. Obviously things might change but I don't think we'll see Meyer in the No.10 role for some time. So, although Maine might be right about Andros being the one to drop out, I think MM will be part of a supporting four.

Only just saw the game and I gotta feel sorry for Meyer. It’s inevitable fans will start turning on him. He can’t get a game, and when he does, he’s being played out of position. He’s a creative midfielder. Not a defensive one. To me this just stinks of utter incompetence from our scouting department, who seem to be unable to differentiate between “deep” and “defensive”. He played one season for Schalke “deep” in a Jorginho type role, and they seemed to of translated that to someone who could replace Cabaye. The guy is not a defensive midfielder, he’s a creative one. I’ve said it since the start, were not gonna get the best out of him playing him in Cabayes role, it’s really as simple as that. So frustrating to watch Schlupp and Mccarthur as our furthest forward midfielders when Meyer is on the pitch. He’s being completely wasted. I guess it’s all rather academic, considering he can’t get a game in the league anyway. But, still, it would be utterly criminal for us to waste what is arguably the most technically gifted player we’ve ever had at the club in this way. Why can’t Roy see this? Edited by Mstrobez (01 Nov 2018 4.47am) Attillio Lombardo in his prime would wipe the floor with Max. Dont get me wrong, I very much like Meyer and agree he is not being used as effectively as he could be but its stretching it to call him the most technically gifted player we've ever had. At this stage he isn't even the most technically gifted player in our current team! That would be Wilf.

MOTM today for me. And that’s why I’ve been crying out to see him in that position for so long. Against lesser opposition than utd and Chelsea especially. He could be absolutely unreal for us. The 442 is a system that has quite simply worked for us under Roy. Gives us defensive consistency. But as I said. The left position allows him to get creative and come inside during attacks. Did so and linked up with Wilf and co all game. Gotta be nailed on as a starter now. Looks like the slow integrating of him in the team may well have just come down to fitness.
We're the Arthur over ere! |
