What a disgraceful performance. Not one good performance out of fourteen. The following should all apologise: Townsend, Schlupp, Ayew, Soerloth, Souare, Puncheon and Meyer. Wan-Bissaka and Kelly were at least respectable and Guaita didn't look likely to oust Hennessey any time soon.

As with the shambles against Bristol City last season, not one player currently on the fringes of the first team did anything whatsoever to show that they should be playing. Ayew should be f***ing gone and Soerloth's half hour at the weekend looked like a flash in the pan.

I think it's probably time to dr^H^H rest Townsend too.

Wickham clearly still isn't properly fit and must've been there for injuries only. On that showing he'd be better than either Ayew or Soerloth even if he were on crutches.

Could have fielded our U/23's and got a better performance tonight. Guaita aside and maybe the two CB's we were abjectly woeful. If this doesn't focus the mind on the depth of the squad, what will?

Losing feebly against Championship opposition didn't exactly have that effect last season, did it? It's pathetic.

That was so disappointing.
A real opportunity to progress against their reserve team.
Only shot in the 87th minute and not one decen cross all night.
I’m quite old but I could make a case for being able to contribute more than Puncheon and Schlupp.
Only players who seemed to care were Townsend, Kelly and Luka when he came on.

out thought, and out fought. appalling and embarrassing.

we need a clear out, and some new ideas. lot of players getting a lot of money for old rope.

Wan-Bissaka didn't get injured?

What a waste of an evening, plus we would have drawn Burton at home.

I don't agree with all these comments saying that this performance justifies Roy largely leaving these players out of the side. In my opinion it is exactly because he leaves so many of them out in the cold that is why they look shorn of form and confidence when they do finally get a chance.

Awful game but Boro defended very well without offering much else. Schlupp still terrible, clear why Puncheon never plays and Ayew starting to look like a really bad signing after early promise. I actually thought Sorloth was ok and played some neat stuff in the second half without threatening the goal. I missed the first half but in the second he didn't receive a single chance did he?

One big thing I took away from this is that Meyer should be starting in the PL. If he starts regularly he is going to quickly become one of our best players. Roy can't keep giving him bit parts. The things he does wrong seem obviously about match sharpness. Good to see Woods get on the pitch given he's a fan Good to see Souare get a start - he still does that great first-time cross.

At the end of the day this cup has become almost the reserve league and to expect teams to come out and play great football when they never usually play together is asking a lot, but we really should have done better.

Well, not much learned tonight - our squad is as thin as we thought. Disappointed in Townsend yet again - so unthreatening. Guaita plays like he's imbibed 6 cans of Red Bull before the match, slightly worrying.

Sorloth is a rare player that I actively dislike. A pathetic excuse for a footballer who contributes nothing, can't be bothered to challenge defenders - or lazily fouls them - can't be bothered to compete, can't be bothered to fight for the team. If I were one of his team-mates I'd despise him.

There was an article on Sorloth in the property pages of the Evening Standard some months back showing off his new penthouse apartment overlooking the Thames. It always comes to mind when I see him contentedly jogging along 3 yards behind where he should be.

Sorloth should have got on the end of at least a couple of those crosses but doesn't appear able to jump
