Why on earth do people think we have the budget for this? Yeah, it would be nice to sign Dembele, like it'd be nice to sign Giroud, or maybe Sturridge, or whoever else is good and in the approx 20-30m fee / 100k - 150k p/w wages bracket. The thing is, if the club don't have £20 or £30m and space on the wage bill for another big earner, then it really doesn't matter, does it? Unless the plans for the new stand include planting the seed for a money tree, we'll have to spend what we've got and not what we haven't. Edited by TheBigToePunt (26 Jan 2018 3.16pm)

Edited by TheBigToePunt (26 Jan 2018 3.16pm) Dembele is only on £25K a week at Celtic and is their top earner, hence why he'd like to move. But I can't see us spending £20m on him, as much as I'd like us to get him.

Edited by TheBigToePunt (26 Jan 2018 3.16pm) I am pretty sure that Palace will want one or even two proven strikers in by the end of the transfer season. This could mean ‘cheapo’ options like Ulloa and Eder rather than big money ones like Dembele or Babacar. Trouble is the Eder deal seems to have hit some obstacles, so they may be pushed to go for a big money striker?

Each one of us can say whatever we want but one of two things is right. Or we spend a lot and don't have enought budget or we don't spend in others transfers so we had save. The point is simultaneaously both can't be argument to avoid doing the right thing. Edited by Portuguese (26 Jan 2018 3.38pm)

There is no doubt at all that the club will desperately want at least one striker, but that fact alone doesn't generate the money to buy one in the £20-30m bracket. More to the point, we are pretty maxed out on the wage bill, a point under appreciated far too often even though SP draws attention to it whenever he speaks publicly. This is a year old now but very useful:

This is a year old now but very useful: Hodgson and Parish both said some may have to go to bring others in but so far no ones left, either means they were telling fibs or that Jach hasn't taken up much of the budget. Either way I think Dembele is worth blowing the budget slightly for his sell on potential. We could see him hit 50mil with the way our market is growing.

Maybe nobody has bid for a player we want to sell, any player for a price near to our valuation, or no bids received whatsoever. With 5 days left I'd never have assumed Parish was lying he'd sell someone or something along those lines.

I expect that our board for hard tasks find the right solutions and not sit back and justify with the difficulties. We've a greater club story that I'm proud of. A few years ago we faced a major problem now we're able to talk about a new Selhurst Park, trying to justify not doing what's right based in 5 or 10M. is hard to believe! Saying we have to sell to buy even though we've brought in two players suggests it may have been a bit of advertising to get clubs bidding for our dead wood. We're desperate to get rid of Mutch who no one wants.
