Ban is correct decision I think but probably a can of worms to follow.
Just waiting now for Everton FC to support the governing body's judgment by fining their player.

I won't hold my breath.

We move in the direction of our thoughts.
Just think a little.

While I realise it's tough on us, as it doesn't help us, I personally am delighted about the ban. For years people havd said we needed retrospective bans for diving and now it's happened. Hopefully other forwards will now think twice, and clubs will encourage them to stay on their feet - who wants their top striker to miss two games?...shame it happened agains us, and yes in an ideal world we should be given the win, but a great step forward in cutting out diving.

The problem is with punishment in real time. You get a yellow card if the referee sees it during the match, but a two-match ban if found out afterwards.

Diving has got to be a red card offence.

How about new retrospective bans. If a penalty wasn't given and later seen as a definate penalty, the defender gets a 2 match ban. Seems only fair...

"I think it's a great rule but it doesn't change my stance on if there's contact anywhere on the pitch - slight or not, contact is contact," said Unsworth.

"We don't want contact taken out the game. Slowly but surely it has started."

My question is, wtf does that statement even mean? Do you want contact? I.e players to man up and not go down when looked at...or do you want players to be able to fall over when shirt touches shirt and get cheap fouls? I'm not sure how he can defend the dive, it's totally beyond me. Clutching at straws.

Sorry if another HOL has already made a similar point, but surely the ban should be for the next 2 league games against the offended club; regardless of which club the offender may end up playing for.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Agreed. And if you weren't caught, you should get a ban greater than that of a red card, particularly if you're team benefitted.

We suffer on the day whist our immediate rivals benefit.

I think, the very fact that the PL is even considering bringing in video reviews is sufficient evidence that they believe too many contentious issues are being missed by the refs. Slightly different angle to the contention that the refs are poor, just that they are missing important moments, perhaps because of the pace of the game and being incorrectly positioned.

This is a straightforward choice for me, I am firmly in the camp of video evidence although I would temper this by saying it is only necessary where a goal is likely to be scored, has been scored or a penalty is disputed.

In the case of Niasse, it would be a simple, the ref would say, "I saw contact on Niasse from my position, firstly penalty or no penalty. Secondly, was the contact the cause of the player going to ground." This would not have taken long to resolve and the answer would have been, " No penalty, Niasse went to ground without any contact to his legs and minor contact to the upper body". Yellow card for Niasse for simulation, free kick to Palace. I would add to this that if Niasse had gone down without any contact whatsoever then this should be a red card for simulation.

An alternative solution to the ref issue is to play the game as they do with basketball, with a leading ref in front of the game and a trailing ref behind the game. Either ref can make the call and if they have a difference of opinion then they discuss it before making their decision.

Great, just what we need, another official on the pitch! What if they both disagree, is there a senior ref and a junior ref with the senior having the final word. I agree it wasn't a penalty and Niasse should have been booked for simulation. Taylor got it wrong (and it wasn't the only decision he screwed up on) and no doubt the referee's inspector at the game will have noted his performance and duly marked him on it. Football is a simple game, why complicate it!

Might never happen, particularly if Everton fall through the trapdoor
