Play 4 at the back or let's end it here?

It's weird how we all crave for 4 at the back when Frank played that at his more attacking sides in leagues that were apparently "easy". 3 at the back in my view was a conservative and defensive tactic.

Staying up for 5 seasons?

Frank did change it at HT at 1-0 but also had ward still on at LB and he takes off PVA. PVA played shyte at LWB just passing the ball back or sideways but that was LWB and not LB. He should've been kept on with an option out wide. Or was it some Dutch lesson treatment for not obeying instructions? Pretty poor if so. Another player played out of position, unnecessarily as well, again.

Staying up for 5 seasons? By the skin of our teeth with the need of miraculous runs from Pulis and Allardyce and a change in manager every single January barring one where as I said we went onto have the worst English record in a calendar year. I don't know how people can't see the unsustainability of carrying that on. If you don't try and progress, the writings on the wall for you, especially with a team like us who have been just about getting away with it for 5 seasons.

Why did SP take some 6 weeks to make this appointment, which many with the benefit of hindsight, knew it to be a risk.
Clearly, Dyche would have carried on where Sam left off and would have been a safe pair of hands to keep us in the division.
With window shutting in days,do we have the quality needed to survive without several new faces and under whom, is the question.

I think a good point, I would argue that we have enough quality to certainly deliver something competitive but asking or expecting a few more players is not unreasonable in context either.

I am anxious to see what these talks bring, I think we need signings irregardless and will be interesting to see if the board will question FdB on his tactics which rightfly or wrongly would beg the question why hire him in the first place?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It's clear that Parish etc have an obsession about making us 'entertaining', despite the fact that this has failed already under Pardew with most of the same players.
To anyone with a brain, the obvious problem is that our squad is not good enough. We stayed up thanks to Sam Allardyce and Sakho and now we have neither.

This really isn't that hard to figure. Get rid of this dreary no personality Dutchman and employ a proper PL experienced manager, sign Sakho and get some cover for our forward players. We have none.

who is that then? david moyes?

'Results over style'

Problem is, as a style it is in itself turgid. I've found my attention drifting constantly this season as we try to retain possession. We just don't seem to get it, we're pedestrian and incapable of upping the tempo. Watching Man City move the ball round on the MOTD highlights is a fantastic thing to see, but look at the players they have at their disposal. We seem incapable of passing, thinking and moving all at the same time, until we can do that we are going to remain incredibly vulnerable.
Hate to say this, Pulis may have been a complete weasel, but under him we were entertaining and we got results.

That's because of the managers before. Holloway was shyte from day 1 in the prem and Pardew should've gone in May, September, October or November. With a smart manager who plays to the players' strengths we'd never be in the bottom 4.

Apparently it's all because of players not doing as they're told.

Frank and Parish are to blame but to claim we're suited to 3-4-3 before signing and selecting 3 new players and arguably needing another 3 in addition to back up striker etc is bordering on idiocy or gambling with our future to advertise himself for a big job.

I didn't not know what the rush is. There's players yet to sign and points we're flushing away.

How Mstrobez can't see this is a mystery. I can only guess he's related to Frank.

Well why is it being implemented then? When he played 4 at the back with Ajax and Inter? The idea of 3 at the back is that whilst defending you have 5 defenders instead of 4. It's not the being more attacking we've struggled with, it's having players with the intelligence to adapt to the system. What other possible reason does De Boer have to go against his and a famous Dutch formation he's played in during his entire managerial career and majority of playing career?

I swear when people don't like someone it clouds their judgement and it's impossible to fathom any responsibility or blame lying with anyone but De Boer.

I never said 3-4-3 was the right formation once. I didn't defend it, I challenged the point to people who want us to be a more defensive side that the whole idea of Frank in particular using it was that. And going by his history (and interviews where he's actually said it), I find it hard how you can even argue with the point I'm making.
