Let's recognise that both the first 2 goals came from Ward being beaten by his man when actually stood in a normal RB position. That would have happened regardless of the system we were playing, as would the resultant defending from the crosses. Dann ducking out of a long ball and letting Ince go through 1 on 1 was nothing to do with the system either. On another day, Dann would've scored, Benteke would've scored from the corner, and Benteke/Wilf would've scored from Townsend's low cross. All, again, nothing to do with the system. Wilf got put into loads of space in the box in the first half and did nothing with it too. Rather than calling the new manager and system doomed after 1 game, let's recognise some really poor individual performances, unrelated to the system, which would have seen us battered regardless of how we set up. The players have at least as much blame to take from yesterday. But the 2nd goal didn't happen that way. Ward was left 2 on 1 and Luka didn't cover behind so Mooy(?) had a clear run for the cross. Riedewald then didn't jump and gave Mounie a free header. Ward's been harshly treated on that goal IMO. He also really had no chance on the 1st goal it just got him. Basic defensive skills not deployed, whether you are Dutch, English or anyone.

Luka or someone was in front of the player with the ball and Ward was in front of his own marker. Ward going to the ball was what I thought did it at the time, and that was after a bad 10 minutes for him. Maybe I had a bad angle but that's what I saw. An easy one two when all he had to do was stay and be patient. Schoolboy error if that's what it was and possibly pressure in his head from being done several times before as a wing back, without someone in front of him and without the defence part of the game as his priority.

Cold hard fact of the matter is that the formation and system didn't work. It's not just to do with Personel and certainly nothing to do with spending money. We can't recruit a whole new team, and frank has to use what he has.
RLC looks a real talent and a dynamic forward thinking midfielder, yet for most of the game he was played on the wing and couldn't influence the game. Frank has his system, but we have our players and they don't seem to fit, he needs to be able to adapt his system or he needs to go, the outcome of yesterday has to rest at his feet at the end of the day. He picked that team and they played under his instructions. He said in the interview we lost the game in 15 minutes. I don't know what game he watched but the one I saw we were second best for almost all the game.

Yes, embarrassing. Our manager *ank de Boer wanted to make an impression ... and so he did! He speaks fluent boll*cks as well as double Dutch if anyone bothered to listen to him after the game? Oh dear, it's not looking good so can we send him back to wherever he came from? Pathetic comment. Were you sober at the time?

Back at work I had a 9-0! headline enlarged to A3 attached to a With Sympathy card signed by the whole office. But you know what, throughout that game the Eagles fans kept singing their hearts out and supporting their team in adversity - even after we missed the penalty. The Kop were outsung and applauded us.

What an embrassment that was losing to a team like huddersfield 3-0 at home as Paul merson said you don't want to be losing at home to teams like huddersfield at home see after 1 game we are favs for relegation again can't see FDB lasting long if we getting hammered every week but we are slow starters anyway we've only ever won 1 game on the opening day 3-1 to Norwich can only get better HOPEFULLY

Luka was behind Ward. Seen it again. Luka wasn't anywhere near the 2 players and should've been. But ward shouldn't have gone with the player when he went inside with the ball. Stay with your man. People starting to take on others responsibilities is when things go wrong. Nicely noticed and punished by their man. Result was yards of space to pick the cross. Maybe Luka playing weeks at centre back and then in midfield of a 3-4-3 was a cause for this. Same for Ward not playing RWB in this 3-4-3.
