Well obviously, but there's a whole load of people who've been watching this squad for a lot longer than Frank who don't agree. If he knows such much about 4-3-3, I'd recommend he gives that a go first as we've struggled whenever we've tried to go three at the back.

I agree, but if this 3-4-3 formation can be successful, it will give us a plan B option that could be crucial next season.

Look - I know it's very early days and we can't draw too many conclusions yet, but I do have a few concerns:

Recent palace history shows we fare much better keeping it tight and attacking on the break and horrendously badly when we try and open up and outplay better teams:
Holloway (too open) replaced by Pulis (did well).
Pardew (too open) replaced by Allardyce (did well).

We don't have the players to pass out from defence through central midfield, so we will need wholesale player changes to make that happen.

From the friendly today, we took far too many liberties in deep areas with high risk and little potential reward. In this way I was reminded of Holloway.

The other thing I don't like is how gleeful Parish was with getting FdB in. I wonder whether he has fully engaged his rational mind on this one.

So, I'm not making any concrete conclusions just yet, very early days as we all know. But I feel Frank has to get on with defensive / keeper recruitment pronto.

Wow, fancy telling a former international how to do his job. As a matter of interest this first match with Franky in charge was just that. Palace did ok and players were given the eye. Plenty of boys came on, which we must applaud. As for playing out, I think Palace did quite well,on that one. Only Sclupp looked a bit challenged there i thought. But Delany? 38 now and looked pucked last season. Not serious are we?
At least Fra my will have the chance to tackle Liverpool over getting Sakho, directly. And cover for Ward...It's could get desperate.
But thats nothing to do with Franky...he can only work with the resources available. There were a few last minute hacks up-field that he would not have liked, and neither should anybody else. But it takes money to get players able to play out of defence,,,,but at least Palace should try, surely.

As a plan B, I agree.

FDB will of course be judged by results in the rarefied and intense atmosphere of the PL.

If we win our opening game with a new formation he will be lauded as "Progressve", should we lose (God forbid) he will be pilloried for trying to change too quickly etc etc etc and the Pardew "Transition" arguments will come to the fore.

To be fair to OP I think he's merely reflecting an unease about playing transformation. I too am worried but that's because pardew so royally messed up adopting a different style last year it's left a scar that will take a while to vanish.

4-3-3 I could stomach and feel relatively ok. 3-4-3 with our current personnel feels too much too soon.

I think you'll find that view has a lot of support.

I agree, but let's see how this formation works against someone in our bracket in terms of wba. If he still look poor with it today, then I think frank will need a rethink.

But none of those people are working with the players day in, day out. It's always possible that it was poor coaching that caused previous problems, but I guess we won't know until it's tried.

Would be good to have a plan b for once.

Don't you think you're reading too much into this? Of course Franky will be rethinking his position regarding the playing style best suited. That's what he's been hired to do.

Yes I find Frank's comment that the squad are best suited to 3-4-3 yet he therefore needs to go and get a bunch of new defenders to play it a bit odd. Interesting. Could be great or painful or a short experiment.
