Jimmy currently gives cover for Cayabe, punch and Milo he must be virtually the first name on the sub bench. It's a brave man who sells such a versatile player. Personally think you need to know the replacements will work out before letting him go. Other wise one or two injuries and we have BIG problems. Do we need £8m that badly? Don't think so.

didn't read pages of responses, so i don't know if anyone is arguing if he's a regular starter or a back up. he's just not a regular PL starter for a mid table side. you can like him as a player but the reality is he's not a player of that caliber. if YC is playing in front of mili, then he's a backup. i personally think YC should be in that role. he's better than jimmy. if someone is paying 10M+ for a backup, it's worth considering. but he's a cup player at the PL level. not a starter. are we getting someone better to replace him? if someone better is found for equal fee, then do it. if not, keep...for now.

Where have these valuations come from if not thin air. I read a couple of articles yesterday about different players. The first was a defender whom it was suggested we could get on the cheap as he is entering the last year of his contract and the second was for Jimmy Mac whose price seems to have gone up yet he is also entering the last year of his contract.

We paid 8m for James mcarthur to Wigan and since then the inflated tv money has come into play. I highly doubt that we'd sell mcarthur for less than the 8m. If he doesn't sign a new deal, he walks away for nothing next summer.

No idea where the values have come from. I assume people are thinking anything less and we'd say no. But honestly I think it's (Jedi) risky buisness selling JM without a proven replacement

If it is true that Burnley want him they obviously rate him as a premier league player. Really don't see the point. We have form selling players (Jedi particularly) with no replacement.

Not if he is fit, he gives us the legs in midfield that allows Cabaye time to play

I know I'm banging on a bit, but it actually baffles me. He has been maybe the most consistent player bar Zaha since his arrival. He has been coming back from an injury and hasn't had much playing time since that. He was one of our most productive players in terms of goals last season as well. A very versatile player and much better cover than Ledley or Flamini were. A real box to box player that will flourish in a high pressing game. His engine is incredible and he regularly covers 13 km in a game. Not a flashy player but can let cabaye play and let luka do the dirty work while he helps out with both jobs. We'd be mad to sell. Anyone we bring in to do his job will cost as much or more. Edited by coulsdoneagle (08 Jul 2017 7.08pm)

V good player but if fdb hasn't enough funds after sakho to do what he needs to do who else is worth selling for a decent fee who doesn't fit into his game plan. Mccarthur doesn't score enough. Can't play cdm. He is however a great box to box link terrier. Yes he will be missed. But in order to get possibly v persie in..who knows.. Or another proper cdm which will alow us to a 433, it'd a sale we have to make. Purely cos of funds available after buying sakho. And yes I believe sakho is on his way to us
