I think it's fair to say that some in this country (maybe not some on here), do hold that view. Emergency, tragedy, people in danger does make people drop their prejudices or fears of others, but let's not be so naive to suggest that one fire and Muslims nearby helping those in need when it could be them changes the fact that many live by Sharia Law rather than British law, and some would rather live under Sharia law instead of British law and would do anything to have it, some without needing that to be the result of their actions. There are issues in this country and people in great distress break down those issues temporarily. Sadly they're still there afterwards.

My good God. Why has Someone on Twitter jumped on this as a way to positively discriminate against Muslims. Religion has f*** all to do with this. Politics yes to a degree with cost cutting and safety aspects yes, but religion f*** right off. They saw or smelt their neighbours, friends, families home's burning and went to help like human beings would. Christ sake. Seen images of the tower block still alight. Think about this. There are dead bodies laying in there being cremated. There may be no remains to give back to families to bury. The death toll will rise and they simply cannot gain access and begin a recovery process. On another note regarding sprinklers and fire alarms being installed as standard in all these blocks and if they aren't then sorry put a penny on income tax to fund it. Council tax goes up every sodding year stick £1 on everyone's bill across the country to fund this. I also having seen this and read it COULD have been caused by a fridge I believe anyone living in blocks of flats, apartments or multi dwellings should have to pay a small charge each year to the council and have their appliances and devices checked for electrical safety. My husband can't go into someone's property and plug a hammer drill or chop saw into a customer's plug socket unless it has been pat tested. People who buy second hand tv's and electrical equipment which could be faulty and cause damage to property or fire which could kill people should have to have these items checked. In a single flat or house there's more chance of it being contained or people getting out. 20 floors up. Well there's little hope sadly.

Michaela, you're right regarding religion. People dying in your local area are people dying. You just help. To fit sprinklers in every English tower block would apparently cost £140mil. Very affordable. I'm surprised it's that low. Perhaps in truth it isn't.

Furthermore, you've got form for this, on one of the bombing threads, just drop it mate it's distasteful. Edited by dannyh (15 Jun 2017 10.39am)

Did hear that the local yoot saluted and clapped the firemen coming off duty during the night, nice touch! You have to feel for those firemen that have to go from flat to flat looking for bodies. A soul destroying job. I'd imagine.

Very affordable. I'm surprised it's that low. Perhaps in truth it isn't. There was a quote on LBC that there are some 4000 of these type tower blocks in the UK, i'd guess that figures is then way out. On the radio yesterday morning a construction company 'bloke' was being interviewed and quoted the additional cost of £6-7 mill to remove the asbestos on a tower block of a similar size to that of the Grenfel. They'd need to do this to be able to install a sprinkler system. He also quoted that it was 'common practice' for local authorities to be charged a premium of 50-60% on all works, "well, cos they'll pay it" - Thats the disgusting element of it. The works don't get done because its too expensive, its too expensive because the firms that do the work massively overcharge because the people commissioning the work don't know what they are paying for. You then hear the news (rightly or wrongly) that the building recently had a conversion from Electric to Gas without many residents prior knowledge, I only hope that this is wrong information.

Let's ignore the fact that the majority of Muslims should be expected to act like anybody else and to highlight the fact that some helped is incredibly pathetic. Shall we highlight every member of every other group as well? Also, I know no one who is saying that we should expel all Muslims so again it's another pathetic point. Yes let's also give thanks to the drug aaddicts who were up all night off their faces. If it wasn't for them being awake and alerting people. Or the career criminal coming home late from drug dealing or mugging people. I mean the spin on this is endless isn't it. Jeez
