Whilst there is indeed a reasonable case to be made, those that criticise must recognise that it is only by virtue of Parish that we are in existence and in the PL, let alone enjoying our fifth consecutive season in it. You may point to a lack of managerial stability in recent years, but we simply speculate on reasons for this. Considering the circumstances we have found ourselves in (vis a vis Pulis, Big Sam, etc), I doubt that you would find many chairmen capable of weathering the storm and keeping us up. It is easy to jump on the bandwagon, but I am convinced that Parish is the best man for the job, and although I regrettably predict us being relegated (in no small part due to our unprecedented injury crisis), with Parish we stand as good a chance as anyone of returning to the PL. This last bit is the most frustrating thing to read on here. We'll have to rebuild the team, almost completely, and play against well oiled opponents. Get used to that when we go down, not straight up to the top 3. Please try and separate Parish's first few seasons and the last. If I were him I'd definitely concede it's not happening and get someone else to take control of transfers and policy.

It's not personal, it's the same old mistakes repeating, unprecedented injuries include players we have bought known to be sick notes, sorry, the " if he can stay healthy " transfer. Rather than have a chairman who from time to time does an interview asnd wistfully regrets his mistakes, can we have a professional who makes fewer mistakes. If by luck we stay up this year it will only be delaying the inevitable It's at this point someone would hand over transfers to someone else and just step in from time to time.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'A Passionate Defence OF Steve Parish ' by Midlands Eagle As I said on the other thread to the copy and pasted post, we won't stand as good a chance as any to get promoted. This is the most misguided view around. We'll be rebuilding virtually the whole team, with, you know what, transfers! This vs teams who've been together years, peaking even more, scoring 3 goals a game, in the top 8 every season. Get used to new problems if we go down.

In answer to one striker- 'What if the sun doesn't rise tomorrow?' The arrogance of it. If it wasn't for the amazing points Roy earned Parish would look the silliest prem manager ever, but that amazing run has been a factor in these injuries. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail.

Burnley came straight back up but they never had to undergo a major rebuilding job.As for transfers - they signed Andre Gray who scored 25 goals for them in their promotion season. Also Tarkowski who was signed after they went down has proved a brilliant acquisition - for a fee of £3 Mill.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'A Passionate Defence OF Steve Parish ' by Midlands Eagle Wouldn't it be nice if the Chairman disclosed each summer and January how much you have in the transfer kitty to spend, which would be very enlightening and utterly transparent for the fans but it would hardly help the powers that be negotiate transfer targets as the other teams will know too and will exploit it to their advantage. Before too much criticism is laid regarding expenditure at anyone's door and particularly SP's, does anyone on this board know for definite and I don't mean, "I read it somewhere", definite: a) How much money we had available at the last two windows? Both of the above are crucial to understanding our dealings and why some deals struggled to get over the line. For example, Amadou or whatever his name is, wanted to come to the club, the other team wanted to sell him, but we wanted to do a loan with a payment in the summer. Now is this because of FFP, lack of money to outright purchase now, or just poor negotiating. I guarantee that very few people actually know the real answer to this question. SP is not without his failings and I believe he is a good chairman, although I don't believe that he should be involved in depth in the transfer market. He should give a budget to Dougie and Roy and say anything that falls outside that budget becomes an exceptional purchase and will require full board approval, just like any big company. He should run the company and it's money and let the rest of the guys do their jobs. Now it may be that this is exactly how Palace is run, but as many have said on here and is probably more likely, he has probably had too much influence in the negotiations. Overall I think he could do better, however I wouldn't swap him for the Ashley's or Abramovich's of this world. We are Palace, enjoy it, its a real, not a bought experience being a supporter.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'A Passionate Defence OF Steve Parish ' by Midlands Eagle I think there are issues with our transfer policy, but I also think the insanely over-inflated market for PL clubs looking to buy even fairly average players means it must be really hard to do business. In January, of our relegation rivals, West Ham spent big on an average championship striker and brought in an ageing LB (although Jao Mario looked good against us), West Brom had to pay big wages for a crocked striker, Newcastle had no money to spend and had to rely on loans, Southampton bought a striker but didn't buy a defender (despite getting £75m for Dick van Dyke), Huddersfield signed one centre back...the list goes on. As much as I hate to say it, Brighton actually appear to have done the best business. My point is, the grass is not greener elsewhere, I just think the reality is that outside of maybe 8 clubs the rest are starting to realise they cannot stay within FFP and cope with the prices in the current market. Parish has tried to get us reasonable deals and has had his fingers burned by his approach, but as I've said in previous posts, I think our signing of younger players and the pre-contract for the Spanish goalkeeper suggests we are taking a slightly longer view, albeit we have to hang on for PL survival. I don't think the club will be making any £20-30 million signings again in the next couple of years (if we stay up) and instead will look to try and build a solid team, rather than an average one with a few stars. That is also the approach I think Roy would want, if he stays on. When we have one GK and only two senior strikers I think people have a right to ask questions, but I don't think it is simple as we need a GK/striker, we go into Lidl and get one. Rather it's more akin to eBay and you have to wait until the last minute when the stakes are higher. Hopefully there'll be more buy-it-now options in the summer

I think it's plainly clear in football that some deals financially you win and some the other side come out on top, usually because they know you have to get the deal done, and usually because you haven't managed things adequately. By trying to win on every deal when the other side and agents know we're desperate is not smart when it all falls apart. This is what's happening.

I was all in support of SP, but now I see him on the home page of this site doing a Nazi salute, while donning a Hitler youth haircut. Disgusting behaviour.

I am in the Stevie critic camp, however we all want a real fan in charge who really cares about the club dont we? overall hes been fantastic and SOME of the criticism can be construed as sensationalism but he does not help himself, he is a media whore, of that we cannot deny so has to take the rough with the smooth. He has not learned from his mistakes like he has claimed. I would like to see him delegate, particularly recruitment and I do not think by the last windows performance Dougie is the answer. I certainly dont want Steve to leave I just think he cant be an expert at all aspects of owning a football club and needs to recognise where he is coming up short. This season has been a debacle, I just hope he does in fact learn from it. Edited by MonsterMunch (01 Mar 2018 9.38am)
