Just as an aside, I think Adebayor could absolutely flourish with us for exactly the same reason he's had problems elsewhere. It seems to me that he needs to be a big fish but in the big ponds in which he's played, this hasn't been possible. He's the sort who needs love, needs to feel important, and needs a manager who'll protect him and fans who'll sing for him. Until now, his ego hasn't allowed him to consider a club like Palace which, in reality, is what he's really suited to. My guess is that if he does sign (and it's a very big "if" ) he might just finally find his home. And if he beds in, he is capable of absolutely tearing up the league and becoming a Palace legend because all the raw material is there. I honestly think that for all the negatives (and there are a lot of them), this might just be a perfect match. Edited by sydtheeagle (07 Jan 2016 12.24pm)

Everyone accepts that when he can be bothered he's good enough...but there is wayyyy too much baggage with this individual. More than has been picked up by the media. What we need is someone who is a team player, buys into the club ethos and first thought isn't about himself or his 'foundation'. Its no co incidence that the same issues have followed him wherever he's been and there are plenty other alternatives that would be less expensive as well as a better fit for the club. I highly doubt there are any cheaper alternatives than a free transfer who quite clearly will not be paid anywhere lie 100k if he were to sign for Palace.

To clarify that last point...I wasn't only talking about financial 'expense', team spirit, potential loss of momentum are just as important and expensive things to lose. But I certainly take the point you are making.

He seems like a safe-bet for at least a few which is oodles in relative terms to our offensive stable. Clearly if Wickham was fit it wouldn't even have come up as an option.

Its clearly a gamble for someone that has history, is high maintenance and not even match fit. We could have all the get out clauses we wanted but they would only be implemented after the damage had been done. I'd sooner someone else took the chance and we finished between 9th and 7th for the sake of attaining an extra place or 2 this season.

The Palace management know far, far more about Adebayor than anyone here. Therefore should they choose to take him on then we should be very happy. Pardew & Parish are in this business every day, 24hrs a day and they will have lots of info we don't have, so pointless speculation from people who have never even met the guy leads no where.

I can't help but note the irony in us getting rid of Murray because he was about to turn 32 and had declining sell on value and now several months later we might replace him with a striker who is about to turn 32 and presumably will want about 3 times Murray's wages. Ok perhaps I'm being facetious, clearly Adebayor at his best is on a different level to Murray but how far from his best is he now? I feel like this is the sort of signing Harry Redknapp would make with a player whose attitude could undermine everything the club is about at the moment. Will give him a chance if signed but otherwise it's a 'no thanks' from me.

I reckon if it gets to transfer deadline day and we have signed literally no one, we'll all be jumping up and down hoping the club announce a last minute Adebayor deal has been successful.
