I'm very happy with the news, very, very happy.
Let's just hope the terms are agreeable and the medical doesn't reveal any problems. We've got ourselves a striker who has a lot to prove ( like he isn't a winger.....), a lot of talent and some good experience for his age. I was a little worried after Bamford's arrival that we'd miss out on a permanent striker signing, needn't have worried eh? And I get the feeling that Palace are stealing a march on much bigger clubs with our recent signings.
Great work by the Board etc. to land him. Anybody would think we'd become a fashionable club.

If we are splashing out what's been reported then in my opinion it's essential we don't do what Sunderland have done and ruin the lad's confidence by shifting him out wide. Play him through the middle and he will score goals. A year ago we'd have all creamed ourselves over this signing and he hasn't become a bad player overnight. I think there's huge potential here for him to become our one striker who can do a bit of everything (head, hold it up, finish, run), flanked by the others who are more specialist, ie Murray (target man) Gayle (poacher) Bamford (runner).

Could be a great piece of business if we play it right, could be a waste of money if we don't.

I agree with the positive posters on here, Wickham went through a period a couple of seasons ago when he was on fire very much like Austin last season. He is very young with good experience and like others have said has something to prove- CPFC build from the bottom.

That's because we have. When I, and a number of others, pointed out at the start of this window that our supporters, our location in London, our up and coming status, and our attacking players made us a destination that would enable us to compete with the likes of West Ham, Stoke, Swansea, Everton and other mid-table teams for players, a lot of people laughed. Well, we've taken Cabaye from West Ham and a number of other interested teams, Dann said "thanks but no thanks" to Everton, half the Premiership or more was interested in Bamford but he WANTED to come to Palace and now Ashley Williams seems to be teetering on the point of responding to our interest. Not "would think". We ARE fashionable. Fact.

Not much love for CPFC's new centre forward on there!

TBF, they're actually really divided over the scene

Actually a lot of the comments are really complimentary, not necessarily about Wickham, but about us as a club. Things like Palace destroyed us at home!! Palace are sure to finish above us. I like it!!!!

Couldn't agree more, Syd. Don't know about you but I do find it a little hard to get used to, though.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Exactly. The gulf in perspectives are really odd and extreme. Some of their fans seem a bit loony if you ask me.

I honestly don't think I'll ever get used to it. I probably see myself in a little bit the same way as I see Palace. But that said, I'm enjoying it. For a team that didn't win the World Cup in 1966, we're getting a lot of attention as the most attractive club in London outside the Big Two.

I just watched Sunderland v Palace with Bolasies hat trick we beat them 4 -1 but Connor scored the 1. He looked good to me. In our team he really could be something. Hes got plenty of time ahead of him looks like good business.

What a great bit of business-No one saw it coming until its done! Snatched a young Premiership striker probably partly due to our exciting attacking lineup.
I think he will thrive at Palace and his stock will only rise.
I bet he is dreaming of all those crosses already!

Congratulations to the board & AP for this one.

I think this signals that we've arrived. There is not just recognition, but now acceptance, that we have simply moved up an echelon in the food chain. A lot of posters struggle with the fact that a club they perceive to be "smaller" is achieving what we are, but they are not disputing the fact that we are now an established and attractive Premiership side with a lot of players they'd like to have.
