So it's Ballance out and Bairstow in with Bell and Root moving up a place and Bairstow batting at five. Let's hope that Bell rediscovers his form pretty quickly as if Lyth lasts as long as normal Bell will be facing a nice hard shiny new ball being bowled by a fresh, well rested fast bowler

Typical half-arsed response from the England selectors. Keeping those two in the team and actually promoting Bell up the order to 3 is just plain stupidity.

As they say, form is temporary whilst class in permanent and Ian Bell is a class player so let's hope that he rediscovers his touch pretty quickly. It would help players like Bell and Lyth if the ECB brought in bowlers like Tymal Mills and Mark Footitt as net bowlers with the former being the closest that we've got to Mitch Johnson

Lyth couldn't have been more sh!te in that second test, Ballance has gone well off the boil and Bell's time has run out. They've dumped one batsman pour encourager les autres, by the looks of it, and are presumably supposing that that plus a few strong b0llockings will be enough to make them get there arses in gear. Looking forward then to another instalment of The Muppets.

Listening to the opinions of various cricket experts after the Lords Test people like Nasser Hussain and David Lloyd said that it would be wrong to drop Lyth and he needed to spend the off week learning which balls to leave. In fact the only person that I can recall suggesting that Lyth should be replaced was Bob Willis and he always likes to be contrary

Anyways....... it is what it is and we have to put up with it. I doubt that we'll see much improvement in Bell and Lyth, but Bairstow has a good heart and will add value compared to Ballance. The Aussies tails will be up, so we're in for a torrid time batting and need a good start.

Lythe should have gone too. He clearly ain't up to the job. Sadly it looks like the selectors are waiting until we're 2-1 down in the series until taking the action they should. Lythe just ain't up to the job, it's as simple as that. Bell is out of form but is a class player when he's on top of his game. There are better options than Lythe, Taylor for example, even Eoin Morgan would do a better job than Lythe, hell even I would do better than Lythe, I couldn't do any worse.

Seeing off the new ball requires a different technique and the players that you have mentioned as suitable replacements are middle order players not openers.

I've just been informed that for the first time in 139 Test Matches, or since 2004 for those playing along at home, England's team will not contain a player born somewhere in Africa. Good for you England; well played.
