You said Gayle is not a premiership striker?

And at the time I said it, I was correct. He is still not the finished article, but he improving rapidly. He may well thus become one. This may come as a shock but with good coaching and time to adapt, a player can improve from being a Championship striker to being a Premiership one. It is not wrong to call a player what he is at the time of writing rather than what you think he might become.

You weren't. He's just been given a chance is all and you only said it two weeks ago.

Huh? I've been saying Gayle was not a Premiership striker consistently for the past fifteen months. That may finally be changing (we will know by the end of the season) but it's been true up to this point.

Agree - Whilst he is undoubtedly the best finisher we have and certainly I would say can do it as this level without question, his all round game, to be that central striker, especially if we had only one up isn't there yet but given how he has come on I am confident he will be.

As for Gestede I am not convinced totally as he is unproven but as you say, if we can ship out Campbell who we know hasn't cut it, Glenn Murray, who, putting all sentiment aside doesn't look the part either its a calcukated gamble at a net £2m quid or so.

As a big fan of Chammers, our best technical footballer, I would like for the Everton game to see him up front with Gayle and Wilf wide. That for me is a very good front 3

Who would you drop? Surely not the newly re-invigorated Puncheon

But that stack of people appear not to include Warnock or Pardew

...or Pulis or Millen for that matter. But never mind. What does a manager know compared to a supporter?

Hilarious.

Pardew has started Murray in 2 of his 3 games in charge so far, plus given him good time off the bench in the other. Warnock admitted he'd have played Murray had he been available and yeah, he didn't fit the Pulis system - fair enough.

I wasn't having a go. Or even arguing Murray's case. Simply correcting a previous post that stated 'we all know Murray isn't good enough' (or words to that effect), which even the briefest scroll through this forum would disprove that statement.

The problem with the "getting Chamakh back to his first six months at Arsenal" theory is that was a number of years ago. It may very well be that what he is now is what he will always be. We need goals, no one has every won a match 0 - (-1). On the other hand, Pardew has instilled belief in Gayle, Murray and Puncheon and they are putting leather on target. Chamakh is just coming off an injury. Maybe with a few more training session Pardew can get him to believe in his ability to score and he will add that back to his game. That still doesn't mean Palace shouldn't be looking to add a foil for Gayle in this window. Gestede has the attributes we're looking for. Bringing him at at 4-5 million seems to me to be a good bit of business.

All true except for one thing. Chamakh has the attributes we're looking for and, even if it was four years ago, HAS done it at this level. Gestede has the attributes we're looking for and has never done it at this level. That doesn't mean that he won't or can't, but it does mean that until proven otherwise he's more of a risk than Chamakh. Futhermore and in defence of Chamakh, he isn't that old and he hasn't done it for your years not least because he hasn't been given a chance to. We won't know if he still can't until we give him the opportunity. As he's already here and will cost us nothing, it seems sensible to try.

With regard to Murray whatever he did or didn't do last week or the week before, I would say it's fanciful to consider him a better option than a fit Chamakh in either the short or the long term but that, of course, is just my view.

You really need to get to know some of the players of the club you support, Chamakh is 31. If you've watched him play, he won't shoot, I like him in the withdrawn role but he can't play up top as he simply won't score enough, and as you've finally concede Gayle is a gola scorer.

I agree with your thinking on Murray, sell and get in Gestede or another, but it looking like it'll be him.

We have Chamakh, Murray, Gayle, Campbell and Pardew still sees the need to strengthen. Say no more.... !

Funnily enough Puncheon's last two goals have both come from him picking the ball up centrally and driving into the penalty area, almost identical goals in their buildup and finish.

Not sure Murray has proved himself in the Premier League. We, as a club have to move on and the signs are positive, so lets move on and if that means Murray does not stay so be it.

As he did at Cardiff last year twice, Stoke last year and sure there would be other examples if I thought about it - he does like to try to get inside and more central rather than hit the byline or go outside - maybe because although quick, he isn't 'electric' quick like a Wilf or Yala
