Steve Browett went to Hong Kong and around that region, Parish went to Barbados for 10 days

tbh I am no big fan of SP but the summer transfer window is between the last game of one season and the first of the next, so when exactly would he/they go on their hols?

During the season when the football is being looked after by the football experts or is Steve Parish now involved in the training too

Don’t get me wrong I am a massive Parish fan and think he has done more for our club than anyone in decades but I believe his role at the club needs addressing before we lose our 3rd manager in quick succession.

Parish has no real knowledge of football, he is NOT a football man yet professes to know everything about the game.
He is trying to run the club including the team. He needs to quit micro managing. Isn’t it his role to provide a budget for his manager then leave the buying and selling of players to the management team?

Why did Freedman leave? I believe he had big issues with Parish so wanted out. Parish later admitted in hindsight he could and should of done more to keep Freedman at Palace.
Why did Holloway leave? I believe Holloway found Parish too draining with his constant helicopter (hovering over him) micro managing of everything Holloway did.

1) Parish is a Palace fan...so based on all the 'wisdom' I see on the various forums he must know an awful lot about football

2) Parish is a business man, so he is trying to run a tight ship and invest prudently

3) Managers come and go, DF got a better offer from Bolton, I am not sure what the big issues were with SP, you might know better...but it's interesting that after our poor start last year there were fans saying that Parish needed to be talking to DF to sort the team out....mind you they were probably fans who knew more about football than Parish

4) I don't think IH had a problem with SP, after all he was allowed to bring some of his footballing mates in, and was provided with a big squad. I think IH was actually stressed out by the prospect of keeping Palace up, whilst not acting like the clown he did when previously with Blackpool (i.e. he wanted to be taken seriously), in addition he probably needed more time to craft the football team in the style he wanted, that he didn't get as he pretty much had to achieve promotion with the team he inherited. And lets be fair given the hysteria and panic that surrounds the transfer window and the 24/7 effort to get names across the line, that would be enough to do anyone in

5) If you remember from the Vincent Tan/Malky Mackay punch up over transfers, commentators made the point that the owners would always in the end sign off the deals. Given that SP is acting for 4owners it's hardly surprising he would have a fair bit of involvement, after all in many clubs the manager has littled involvement in signing players

6) I have never seen a comment from SP saying he knew everything about the game, if anything it's been the opposite. In the end someone has to lead, and things look very different in retrospect than in the fevered atmosphere of the time. As anyone can point out even the greatest football manager of our time made some pretty poor transfer decisions, so it would hardly be surprising if SP did

He's done no more and no less than at least half a dozen others. Ron Noades. Jim Cannon. Steve Coppell...shall I go on?

These days, it's fashionable for people to pretend that Parish is the second coming and Simon Jordan is evil incarnate, even though I suspect that 12 months into his tenure, the Jordan loyalists then are mainly the same people who are the Parish loyalists now. Those types of people inclined to ask no questions rarely change; the owner may be new but the sheep remain the same.

I see surprisingly little difference between Jordan and Parish with the main exception being their attitudes towards money (which, admittedly, is a big thing). Jordan spent wildly, Parish spends reluctantly but other than that? Both of them have huge egos. Both of them are ostentatious. Both of them think they know how to run a business they clearly don't know how to run. Both of them think they know more than the football people they've hired. Both of them can't get out of their own way or the manager's way when it comes to renouncing a degree of control. And both of them will sink the Premiership ship before not getting their own way. Both have a bad case of "my way or the highway". Jordan lost a vastly experienced football expert in Coppell...now Parish is trying hard to emulate him in his deteriorating relationship with TP.

New year. Different kind of idiot at the helm. Same old Palace. If we go down, it will be the usual case of squandering an opportunity by shooting ourselves in the foot. The fact that the best the pro-Parish brigade seem to be able to do in defending him is to call their opponents names and otherwise insulting them speaks volumes about the lack of quality of their arguments.

Jordan spent wildly?
On what, certainly not players, do you mean Hotel bills, a s*** west end play & film, setting up his own magazine, Spanish property, or maybe the yacht.
Jordan took more out of Palace, than he ever put.

Although the rumour comes from The Mirror, there is often a degree of truth to them.

Since when has the Mirror been truthful and reliable as a news media ? However, I must say I do hope Parish is not among the many bodies who now appear to be directing Palace one way or another!. However again,if Parish did torpedo the signing of Crouch and Ellerington from Stoke I would heartily support Parish in that regard!.
While this may sound as if I want my cake and eat it ,surely Parish explained in depth to Pulis what he envisioned in the transfer market or at least gave him some guide lines in which to function. While I still am very skeptical of The report in The Mirror, I do believe there are some questions to be answered as to why we are frozen out of the transfer market. May be we are just too inflexible in our approach to signing players, who knows?.

Indeed being a 'business man' also involves knowing when to take opportunities even if that involves a certain amount of risk

This says it all about how little some people understand about running a business; the assumption that wild spending can only be related to player expenditure. Jordan didn't blow a 50 million pound + fortune by investing it; shrewdly it doesn't matter what he blew his money on; it matters than he blew it.

Indeed it does, and it also involves how much you risk. Do you risk a player on £45k with no relegation clauses, or do you go for £30k and under, with relegation clauses? I don't know how many players on £30k plus accept relegation clauses anyway, so maybe it's a case of risk being rewarded, or risk potentially hamstringing you in mid-table Champ football with a few players noone will equal the pay you're contracted to paying them.

All easy for us to say this or that, when you have that choice or 20 odd other players being offered about next week, what do you do?

Both very successful businessmen too. And we all saw what happened to both long term and short when they tried to apply that talent to running a football club.
Not saying he and his co owners won't make it work in the end but for me they are proving right now they have a lot to learn

To a degree but I would say the most important factor in our current league position is the change in ethos and mentality since IH left.
I think it's fair to say that not many people would agree that the shotgun, desperation approach we took in the summer window was either successful or the way to do business. I had hoped SP in particular would have learnt from this. It seems like all we did was take on a salary of a yes man in moody who to date has delivered zip

Given our league position now wouldn't you say our summer transfer
policy is working
