Update, for those interested. I am feeling a lot better, the coughing is much reduced, and I am sleeping well again. Still have a sore throat and ear ache, but the primary problem is tiredness. If I do anything the least bit active for an hour or more I feel knackered. I first had symptoms about 8 days ago and am still testing positive, today was my 5th day with a positive test. My wife has now tested negative for 3 days, so tonight has returned to work as the hospital is operating in crisis mode with so many staff off work with Covid, and a surge of Covid patients in the wards. I understand some wards are operating with just 50% of the required staff levels. Not good. That’s encouraging but take it easy - the tiredness can go for a long time and if you try to overdo it you may set your recovery back. One of the problems with this virus is that people react/respond so differently. As they say hope for the best and expect the worst.

My wife got home this morning from a night shift at the hospital with news that gave me pause for thought. She is working on a ward where patients are fit for discharge but are being held because there is either no care home place for them to go to, or no domiciliary care package available. They are bed blocking. It is a 28 bed ward, divided equally into male and female sections. There are some side rooms for non-compliant or disturbed patients. There are dedicated wards within the hospital, to which Covid positive patients are transferred. These though are 100% full and there are now 6 patients on my wife's ward with Covid and no-where else to go. This is the first time this has happened. Alongside the other empirical local evidence of a huge surge in infection recently (so many people we know have it, or have had it recently) it seems we are being gripped by a big new wave. Staffing levels at the hospital are at crisis point. This isn't hitting the headlines, for obvious reasons, but it's probably going to. I am still positive, but definitely feeling better.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Yes indeed Wisbech, thank heavens for the vaccine as without it we would have had hundreds of thousands more COVID infections, tens of thousands more seriously ill / hospitalisations and tens of thousands more deaths and bereaved families. It truly has been a game changer.

You can only do what you can do, and beyond that and doing your best to maintain good general health, whatever will be will be.

Not sure what latest guidance is,..but 2 members of our workforce are off with Covid. No-one at work has officially been told, just discretely asked "have you been in contact with,...?" I would think the sensible thing would be to officially tell all the workers (100) and ask them to take a lateral flow test and be aware of any symptoms, and isolate if need be. Just a thought. So it's still out there infecting people, as was to be expected with restrictions being lifted.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

Sounds like a fair approach, as it just ends up going from one extreme or the other (from lockdowns.. to basically not even acknowledging that people are ill with it). It would be sensible to inform people.
