I don't have a huge issue with us not getting anyone in. If we start just getting bodies in for the sake of it, then it goes against everything we've pushed towards for the last year on our recruitment. HOWEVER, we are enjoying success and look like we can push on into the top half with a little more investment. It would be such a shame to not get a deal we've desired for some time over the line, as we didn't want to pay a little more £££. Sarr and Gallagher are the obvious ones, Nketiah of previous windows. Wilf leaves next summer for nothing and now everyone knows it, so it becomes more expensive to replace him when clubs know you need to fill a gap. Much easier to buy when you hold all or the majority of the cards...

I think we have maybe 14-15 players good enough for the first team and then the quality starts to dip, or there's a severe lack of experience. In defence our only cover for Guehi and Andersen is Richards, Ward and Tomkins, one of whom is a makeshift centre-back, one who is quite inexperienced and one who is never fit. At left-back is Mitchell, with others really just being makeshift options. In midfield we have more numbers but Jairo is not in contention, Luka is too slow and Hughes (for whatever reason) seems to have drifted away, while McArthur is always injured. If any of the starting three get injured we will probably look lightweight. Right-wing we have Ayew, Olise, Ebiowei; left-wing we have Wilf and possibly Edouard; in the centre we have JPM and Edouard. We have options, so really just a case of whether Vieira thinks they're good enough.

Apparently Forest are interested. Is there anyone under 25 million they aren't interested in?

I like the Ronnie Edwards deal. Get him signed up now, loan him back to Posh. By the start of next season, he’s had enough first team experience, and Tomkins contract comes to an end. It’s a ready made replacement who looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

I will be surprised if we sign anyone that’s ready for the starting line up or even the bench, we might get the P’boro lad over the line but that will only be beneficial to the U21s…. We will get we were closed to a couple of deals but couldn’t get them to work for one reason or another …. PV will tow the line with “I’m happy with my squad” ….. I really hope I’m wrong !!

***********Guaita********** Can we have this 11 on Saturday please
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I suspect you are right. The signing of Ronnie Edwards will be made to look like a wonderful bit of business, as SP announces that we tried desperately to get more deals done but the market is difficult at the moment, and that we are all happy with the squad that we have. 2-3 injuries to certain players and there's a good chance we are struggling. To let Kouyate and Benteke go without replacements committed too, is gambling. Seems we have thrown all our eggs in a Conor Gallagher shaped basket and we end up with just one first team started over a entire transfer window. I said earlier, that I rated this window a 5 out of 10, I think now it's probably a 2/10. No point in signing players for the future if you don't have sufficient a squad for now. A look at our bench suggests we don't. Originally posted by Andy0629

I think letting Kouyate go for the sake of an extra year on his contract could bite a bum. What? It's okay because MILOVOYEVICH???

SSN is worryingly silent about any business whatsoever from Palace. We are definitely weaker down the middle than we were last season and I have grave concerns about our ability to compete if we get just one more injury.
