Of the outfield players we’ve brought in only Doucoure is first team ready.
We’ve lost McArthur, Gallagher and Kouyate that was our most effective midfield combination last season.
McArthur is still here but I doubt he will feature that much.
I can see why some are of the opinion that at the moment we are weaker than last season in midfield.
Our midfield doesn’t look balanced despite the good start from Doucoure and flashes of excellence from Eze.
Luka and Hughes don’t appear to have the energy and presence to be other than bit part players and Schlupp seems to me to be a useful squad player rather than guaranteed midfield starter.
It will be really disappointing if we don’t bring in at least one midfield addition for first team contention even if it’s a loan.
We have a promising team with good young players but don’t seem to be paying due attention to the engine room which will allow the team to function at it’s best.

I 'Warm' to your comments apropos the midfield 'Engine room'.
Perhaps Curtis Jones would be a useful addition on 'Loan' from Liverpool but I am reliably informed Liverpool have injury problems in their midfield so are unlikely to allow Jones to depart.

We've got the exciting players, but at the risk of 'broken record' syndrome need to beef up the centre of the park to boss games and allow the flair to do its work.

Absolutely this ^^

You need both the stable foundation and to build upon it.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Talking about centre midfield. I wonder if we had hoped to move some on this year. Hughes, for some reason, now seems to be behind Luka in terms of who’s being given the most minutes off the bench. I like Hughes, he’s neat on the ball and does try to get stuck in…but have the club decided to trim the bench midfielders in the hope of providing funds for a 1st team midfielder???

If you look at those who can potentially play CM

Doucoure and Eze would be considered 1st team choices.

Schlupp, McArthur, Hughes, Luka and Reidewald would all be considered back ups.

That’s not a great balance of quality. Last season Gallagher and Kouyate would have been added to the 1st team choice group.

We need to trim down the bench players and add to the 1st team group.

Willo, I know there has been rare finds in non league but we need players in the 1st team squad now and not in the u23 or signing then going out on loan
Just want somebody to sign and get excited that their gonna make our team better and more dangerous

I feel you will be disappointed or supporting the wrong club. The policy going forward has been made patently obvious, we aren’t going to be buying old ready made players on the end of their career around 30 years old.

He didn't say anything about buying "old" players "at the end of their career around 30 years old"

Eze, Olise, Guehi, Andersen and Doucoure are neither old nor at the end of their careers

This is what I have been informed as well, however it is a fast 'Moving picture' on transfer deadline day !

Furthermore, it was reported that we submitted a £27 Mill bid for his services - I don't recognise this at all.

Way to quiet for me on deadline day. Hope this day doesn’t fizzle out without any excitement. Time running out, how Palace think they can get deals over the line in a day with our recent history of drawn out transfers is interesting.

Surely we are going to do some business today. We only have a 21 man squad.
