I disagree This thread was about the Post EU world and the impact of Brexit on the UK economy certainly counts. Regarding Universal Credit that was the Guardian comment's perhaps the BBC is more accurate "Universal Credit: Jobseekers must widen job search more quickly" Do you mean brexit is causing the unemployed to stay out of work?

No I think the government is trying to push the unemployed into taking jobs rather than inviting in overseas workers. The hospitality sector amongst others is blaming Brexit for the job shortages the government is quite right to push employers and the unemployed together.

No posts about the queues at Dover this week... media doing everything they can to stay away from it as well. I wonder why.

They are talking about Biometric checks at the border, like at airports. However, departing passengers are not subject to these, only certain arriving passengers. If this is the case here, then surely any queues will be in France? Unless (and I will try to find out) we have French Officials based at Dover, we had UK Officials based in Calais. Apologies the article I read was relating to possible queues, later in the year, when the EU introduce the ESTA type visa for non- EU nationals Edited by Spiderman (28 Jan 2022 3.01pm)

Isn't it because we have finally implemented our side of the the customs agreement with the EU? They did it for our exports from day 1 we have given their exporters a year's grace in the hope that it would be simplified. With no new deal on the horizon I guess it time for quid pro quo.
