Sounds like something Jay might have said in the Inbetweeners! It's on his level. Best though to see John, chapter 8, verses 3–7 for a more adult response. Can we please keep religion out of the public domain?

Very interesting article comparing the situation in the USA and Canada and analysing why the death rate in the USA is so much higher. It looks at the impact of vaccination levels, mandates and vaccine passports:- This comment, from an infectious disease specialist, I think is particularly apposite, and food for though here to:- "I think the US is equally disjointed, but on a much grander scale," he said. "The science is the signal, and the politics is the noise. A [failure] to understand the signal from the noise may be contributing strongly to the unfortunate situation they're in."

Labour frontbencher Emily Thornberry has said she would not date someone who has not had a coronavirus jab as she labelled the unvaccinated as 'selfish'. Emily, if they are dating you love selfish isn't the word...Greedy more like...that's someone who loves a third helping with all the trimmings. Attachment: WhiteVanWoman.JPG (42.75Kb)

No comments at all on the announcement by Johnson that all restrictions will end, thus encouraging the belief that appears to be growing that it's all over, and we can just return to the way things were. It was very noticeable yesterday that the wearing of masks has declined markedly. This announcement, as was the previous one, was made directly by Johnson, unsupported by any experts. It's also against WHO advice. With his position so tenuous, but out of the headlines because of Ukraine, this stinks of political opportunism by a populist, and not a calculated decision on public health grounds. I am as pleased as everyone else that Omicron has proved to be as mild as was hoped, and not as bad as our caution demanded. That though is no reason to lower the guard too low, too early. In particular the need to maintain pressure to ensure that everyone completes the vaccination programme is paramount. With some people continuing to refuse accepting the vaccines, and some double jabbed now believing getting boosted is unnecessary, while at the same time vaccination has been approved and encouraged for all children over 5, this seems an inappropriate strategy to me. It is sending out mixed messages, and just looks political.

Have to suspect that the psychological effect of the approaching two year anniversary plays some part in this decision but anyone who wants to wear a mask, isolate or whatever else isn’t being prevented from doing so.

It is not a crime to make a political judgment call. It is a politician’s job to weigh up evidence and to make judgment calls, to balance security, liberty, level of risk and the economic consequences. Politicians have to weigh up a plethora of factors. I shall now leave the debate to others, as ever I shall concentrate my efforts on the football discussions ! Edited by Willo (21 Feb 2022 10.51am)

With respect that's not the point, is it? It would be if what an individual does impacts them alone, but in this situation what we do as individuals impacts everyone else. A fact that continues to escape the determined vaccine refusers. Ensuring that everyone participates in a collective endeavour to defeat a pandemic requires political leadership, not political opportunism.

The question is not whether Johnson, having looked at all the evidence has made such a judgment, or has he, as I suspect he has, decided it's in his personal interest to do this, to divert attention from his own problems and to increase his popularity.

Thing is, if it's something you advocate, then it goes against the adage that, if in doubt, take the opposite view to that of Wisbelch. Edited by georgenorman (21 Feb 2022 11.07am)
