I have met Eddie Howe and he was a thoroughly nice guy and when I met him he was giving up his time for an excellent cause.

Of course it's his fault, he makes the players pass the ball to the opposition when there's a great opportunity to pass to a team mate and he makes our players miss chance after chance when attempting to score and worst of all he even makes our defenders make awful mistakes that allow the opposition to score goals I really think he should be sacked this instant and sent to jail for life, I'm not kidding. I think you must be new to football, or at least how it works. Players don’t get sacked for poor performances, managers do. In any form of people management and there is underperformance by a team member that’s on them. If it’s consistent under performance and not address by the manager that’s on them. Basic stuff. Some players are passed it but he plays them. Yes players must take some ownership. Also it’s just a message board with differing opinions. Why are you always so dramatic. At half time yesterday Ray Lewington had to give the players a rollicking and nearly gave himself a heart attack, according to Roy. I think this tells us a lot of where we are at the moment, the players have little motivation, yeah I know even though they are on 40k a week upwards all of them. We really need to blood 2 to 3 youngsters now like all the other clubs are doing. Look at Harvey Barnes for Leicester yesterday he is superb, he is one of a few that have come through the ranks at Leicester. I like Roy but we need to change for next season to stay in the Premiership...

Edited by MonsterMunch (29 Dec 2020 8.25am) Totally agree. The art of being a good manager is taking a group of individuals and turning them into a team. I would say we are under performing as a team and that is the manager’s responsibility, no-one else’s. Some will argue you can only work with what you have which is of course true, however Roy’s selections of the same players week in week out regardless of performance, tells me he has only one plan and that is to force players into his model of play rather than adapt the play to suit the squad he has. This is also why he ignores youth, because he will not rely on them to adhere to his strict instructions. His management style didn’t work with England once the pressure was on, it didn’t work in Italy, nor at Liverpool and it’s stopped working with us.

This is the bottom line. The problem I have with the Roy Out stuff is that there are no coherent / consistent arguments about what he is doing wrong other than blase statements and cliches about game plans and subs and then talking up average or poor players who he isn't picking. With regard the players I think they are largely an honest (there are exceptions IMO Benteke, PVA, Sakho) group of fairly average players who have done well for the club but there is a lack of quality and guile in the final third. As others have pointed out you also can't carry that many players who are on the way down at the same time particularly when they were one paced to start with. I do think his continual selection of Luka may bite him. I think things are very stale and results / performances worrying so get why some want a change but also remember the mess the likes of Eddie Howe got into last season. Agree wholeheartedly except I do think we have enough quality and guile in the final third, it's the middle third that's the problem: mainly slow, predictable and not wholly comfortable in possession

it's hard to put replies on here sometimes, anyway further to my last post it wud be nice to see Andros stay wideand put crosses in for Benteke a bit more, I don't want to get get in to telling Roy what to do but Harry Redknapp pointed this out, he's been off form but why our wingers can't be instructed not to cut inside so much but to get a few crosses in for him to attack is ammo for the anti-Roy brigade (I say we should definitely keep Roy till the summer btw, and blx to Eddie Howe: Pearson, Bilic or Dyche thank you).

Doesn’t make sense that if he chooses to play Benteke that he does not play to his strengths. Looks to me he is prepared to play Benteke for his superior hold up play, winning headers but is not prepared to set the team up to play to his ultimate quality of balls into the box. I’m of the same opinion, I’d be happy to suffer Roy’s football this season if there was any hint of succession planning. I respect Roy for everything he has achieved in his career as an elder statesman of the game. I’d like him to depart palace of his own accord. However I don’t think he’s ready for that yet. Which I can understand, giving up something you’ve done your entire life and still enjoy and believe you can still contribute. I’m just of the opinion palace can do better than Roy now.

Glad to see there was 5 changes from the Villa team and not the 2 reported earlier on. Roy should of made these changes after the Pool debacle. December always looked tough on paper, 6 points from 6 games, will probably please the management, albeit with a couple of dodgy performances included, as that is the prime goal, stay in PL. Therefore expect Roy to last the season but would hope something in the background is being put in place for next season. Edited by Booted Eagle (29 Dec 2020 11.30am)

I agree regarding the crosses. However, if we wind back to the West Ham game Benteke missed a relatively easy chance with his head prior to his excellent goal (I believe he scored because he wasn't expected to). He was nowhere to be seen when Eze whipped a lovely early ball across the six yard. I don't believe he could do much with Townsends pass which was just behind him. You're right about the midfield and that is a contributory factor but in terms of quality in the final third I think that Eze, Bats, Ayew, Townsend and PVA (including him as he can't be in the team for his defending) are very inconsistent.
