This post has been merged from a topic called 'Kevin Phillips ?' by Guntrisoft I notice no-one is responding to your original question, so I will. No to Kevin Phillips as it would be a massive risk. Bit like the toon taking on Shearer just because he was a good player - not a good idea.

I cant beleive that Parish hasnt got someone in mind already, its just if that person is currently available. It would be rare to see someone appointed as manager who isnt in the top 3 or 4 betting favourites COYP
They are for PR purposes more than anything, so that a journalist writing a story about Palace might reference a bookmaker's odds or they get mentioned on TV or elsewhere (how many times have bookies been referenced in this thread?). Having worked at a major bookmaker until very recently I've been involved in plenty of discussions and read plenty of emails around next manager or next club markets where someone has specifically requested that one team/manager/player is made favourite for their article.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

Personally don't see Hodgson as the answer, he has succeeded at clubs our size before but he is yesterday's man. I'd like to see a young hungry man in place as soon as possible. We do need to move the appointment forward as soon as possible so that the new man can have a good run up at the new season.

I would be worried the job might kill Hodgson if he was appointed. Personally I want someone who could at least have the chance of building something, rather than another short-term appointment. I have nothing against Roy, but at nearly 70 he surely only has at most a couple of years. Funnily enough, you probably have more chance of building something with Hodgson who is unlikely to move at a drop of the hat, than the young hungry type Manager who could leave if they have a modicum of success (think Dougie). I wouldn't be excited with Hodgson but I wouldn't be disappointed either

Brendan Rodgers style does not suit us at all, very similar to Frank de Boer in wanting a possession based approach. We may be able to convert, but first of all it would need a huge squad overhaul and more importantly we as a crowd would not like it one bit unless we would start winning from the start and kept winning which is highly unlikely. Money talks in football. Double his wages and I'm sure he'll be back in England in a flash. No disrespect to the spl , but how times can you beat Aberdeen or hearts until it gets boring.
