It's a global economy. Yes, someone was arguing London was down because of Brexit - you're better of looking at the 250 which is more UK centric.

Absolutely, but the majority of us in that time has got poorer and more reliant on credit than ever before.........regardless of oil prices. My point still stands. Shame.

You could argue that China is as exposed as most - manageable so long as interest rates stay lowish - and be fair, you can hardly avoid Brexit.

Smartphones will probably delay that even further. It’s weird to me how we adpoted a modern attitude of sneering at our old and seeing them as purely a burden. That’s not the case in most countries of the world for good reason. I wonder why that’s why we have so many self entitled millennials with little clue as to what’s going on in the world but limitless capacity for being offended. They just need a good spell on the naughty step. It’s also of note that the social justice warriors don’t see age as one of their “intersections”. Ageism clearly doesn’t fit neatly into their ideology, Edited by W12 (06 Dec 2018 11.00pm)

Do we have to be a nation of home owners after all only half the population of Germany own their own homes with the remainder renting

Buying a house has never been 'easy' for any generation of working people. Property was, indeed, a lot cheaper to buy, but wages were so much lower too. Not forgetting that back in the day, you only got 2 1/2 times the MAIN salary of a couple for a 25 year mortgage, as women were still expected to stop working when children came along, and interest rates, although stable, were higher too. Buying then still demanded sacrifice to be affordable for the masses - and the quality of what you could afford was often poor too - remember there was still a lot of property around that had been through war damage right up until the great building surge of the sixties. So you often spent XX to buy and than XXX on top to repair and put in order - in need of modernisation in those days usually meant no bathroom and an outside lavatory, not a lack of a power shower in the en-suite!
