Yes Stirling, this is one of the most depressing facts from this election. It's interesting that there isn't the air of excitement around this morning like there was when Blair got in.

Let's see how quickly the country turns on Starmer if he doesn't fulfil his manifesto on time.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This system really is a farce and is barely democratic, as I’ve been saying for years.

The fact Reform can earn a significantly higher vote share than the Lib Dems and come away with not even 10% of the seats is pathetic.

It would be interesting to read a full transcript of your luncheon discussion on here Willo.

I cannot guarantee to reveal the jot and tittle of our discussions but I suspect the leadership and future direction of the party will be on the agenda.

Present will be aged gentlemen on the right of the party, anti EU, anti-woke, pro-Brexit, who have been fulsome in praise for Suella Braverman, Priti Patel, Kemi Badenoch, Jacob Rees-Mogg etc etc.
All yearning for a lurch to the right.

I look forward to the chinwag and some lubricating of the larynx.

Reform got considerably more votes than the Liberal Democrats but hardly any seats compared to them....Reform having over 14 percent of votes cast compared to Lib Dems's 11.

You have the Lib Dems crowing about their best performance when their representation far outweighs how popular they actually are.

Annoying.

You are picking on the wrong party. The Libs have had to suck this bitter pill for as long as I have been alive. Thus, in 2005 and 2010 they got close to a quarter of the votes... but did that translate into 160+ seats? Not a chance.

Even this time, PR would have handed them over 90 seats. They are still short.

Those Reform supporters understandably upset by this have very short memories. They were given the chance to bring in at least a move towards PR but chose to stick with FPTP as it favoured the party they then supported. It is only when they switched allegiance to a smaller party that they can now see just how unfair the system is.

Sure, but it is nowhere near as big a problem in comparison, yet everyone treats it like it is, which to me is bizarre

The lengthy, arduous task of rebuilding ourselves as a plausible contender for office must commence immediately, and start with an honest, painful reckoning as to how we arrived at this juncture.

Legal migration is generally not taking the pi$$ out of the taxpayer like illegal which is fairly enough emotive when you see the benefits and treatment of the people compared with struggling citizens

FPTP is unfair....but I'm not so sure that I favour changing it.

The benefit of FPTP is that it gives the winner their sway to actually get things done without compromising every five minutes.

This can be either very good or very bad depending upon your worldview.....However, from my perspective at least you have the opportunity for action....Not that the Tories took it in 2019.

So I'm having a moan rather than calling for ditching FPTP.....though I concede that it isn't fair as PR......it's just that PR leads to stalemate and political horse trading.

No Willo they know how they got there. The task is to assemble a team worthy of being an effective opposition that will properly hold Labour to account.

Fair comment.

I wonder how Starmer will go....will he continue with Blairism now or will he chart a different path.

Love the result or hate it, at least we have it. Democracy. Try finding it in Russia, China, North Korea and many other vile regimes. The US has a version of it but I'm not sure it works.
