I think the most likely will be Nigel Pearson who is an ex-boro player and has publicly said he wants the job. Monk though has been strongly linked ever since he left Leeds but nothing specific added to it over the bank holiday weekend A northern based journalist tweeted something yesterday. Leeds fans weren't happy. How accurate the journalist time will tell

You will never get agreement amongst fans on anybody but don't forget that when Pulis and Allardyce were appointed we were in the brown stuff and both were acknowledged experts at firefighting so the bulk of fans were happy with their appointments. The situation now is different as we aren't in trouble so perhaps what we are looking for is a bit different as we need someone to take as onwards and upwards That's very true but we must remember we Crystal Palace and despite firefighter efforts. One top 10 finish in 4 seasons. Does that justify, us to get a top candidate. Would Mancini really be interested. What's the best you can actually achieve at Palace next season?

I was actually having a rethink of my views on Hodgeson this morning. Sometimes it is hard to see past someones recent failings but he did do a decent job at Fulham and WBA and it could be argued he was reasonable at a Liverpool in transition. Hodgson is decent and I don't understand why he gets so much stick. He has an excellent CV. He is lauded at Inter, twice UEFA Cup runner up. Won lots in Europe albeit in "lesser" leagues too.

I personally wouldn't be against Hodgson. He could provide us with a steady-the-ship approach similar to Allardyce and Pulis rather than the chaos of your Holloway and Pardew type. He knows what he's doing and has a wealth of experience. Doesn't have enemies within the game and is widely respected by players I'd have thought. It's easy to pick out faults in his career such as Liverpool and England but let's not forget the Fulham, Switzerland, West Brom days. Depends on whether you have a half full/half empty mentality. If he can give us three years of stability in mid table with some cup runs along the way then we can't argue at that. It might not be glamorous but beggars can't be choosers and you have to be careful what you wish for...just to throw a couple of cliches in there.

The only plus side of Hodgson is that he would probably be happy to work with our backroom staff but personally hes 70 in Aug and after the Euros debacle with Harry Kane taking corners amongst other balls ups i think hes over the hill. If we want a safe pair of hands go for Dyche

I think Hodgson would be a good choice. Plenty of experience with only real difficulties at Liverpool. That can happen - remember Clough at Leeds. His reputation has been rubbished due to one game really - England v Iceland. He is also from Croydon of course (went to my school!).
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

I'm pretty sure that the reason this appears to be dragging out (though it's only been a week FFS) is that Parish and CPFC2010 want to get this right more than any of us do. After all, they're not just fans, their cash is tied up in the club. In Parish we trust, he won't let us down.
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |

Would Mancini really be interested. What's the best you can actually achieve at Palace next season? It boils down to the ambition of the chairman and if the board are willing to back their ambition with the necessary cash. We have the nucleus of a good side and with just one or two additions we could sneak in to the top eight with good coaching, good motivation and if we could avoid the injury runs that we have suffered in recent years.

This is the hardest appointment since parish has been at the club. Like you said how ambitious is the chairman. Is there much difference between 4th from bottom or 10th-12th place. Is the investment worth the extra 4m ,you get you going up to 10th or is the tv money enough.

I'm not sure what to think about Hodgson. Having a look through his managerial career, he has certainly achieved a fair amount at both club and international level. In terms of experience and knowledge of the game, he does seem to be a good choice. At 69 though does he still have the energy for the Premier league? And going back to his achievements, these were a long time ago now so is he out of touch with modern day football? I wouldn't be unhappy to see him given the job, I just worry that he wouldn't be able to cut it against some of the younger guy's out there.

I would be worried the job might kill Hodgson if he was appointed. Personally I want someone who could at least have the chance of building something, rather than another short-term appointment. I have nothing against Roy, but at nearly 70 he surely only has at most a couple of years.
