Many will be asking So how Israel can carry out a targeted successful strike on a Hamas commander in Lebanon, yet in Gaza it chooses to decimate thousands of innocent Palestinians.

Because might is right is how the real world works.

Probably because in Gaza the leadership uses the numerous tunnels to keep moving around, whereas in Lebanon I believe the Hamas offices were targeted. Pretty obvious that the target would be there at some point. But I take your concern.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Much more to do with the intent and the type of bombs being dropped.

They have the military capability to be just as targeted in Gaza, there’s just no desire to do so.

Not sure that intent is true; more likely a necessity when a leadership hides amongst the population. The innocent become collateral damage. Definitely wrong but I can see why.

With respect, it's not really a matter of opinion - you can find countless quotes from IDF officials very clearly outlining that they view all Palestinians as fair game. This is not my interpretation, this is what Israel have explicitly told us.

You can also point to the fact that nearly half of the air-to-ground munitions that Israel has used in Gaza in its war with Hamas since October 7 have been unguided, otherwise known as “dumb bombs,” - most advanced militaries have phased out the use of 'dumb bombs'.

If Israel wanted to it could wipe out Palestine totally in about an hour. Then all the surrounding haters within about 6 hours. Clearly they ain’t nice but defending your own is what it’s about. Hamas quit, wars over. The people are suffering because of what Hamas did in October. Israel didn’t need a big reason but by god they got one.

Russia could do the same to Ukraine and the reason they don't is the same reason Israel don't.

Instead, Israel are making Gaza unliveable to stay in and are forcing these people out that way. They explicitly want the UN to come in and send these people to Europe.

If all positions are adhered to we could have a Bobby Sands situation develop where two million people are allowed to starve....which is happening with the vulnerable already.

Aside from the humanitarian aspects to that, I don't want the practical consequences of it. We should have never have associated ourselves with this barbarism.

It took Russia a couple of years to kill 10,000 civilians. Israel have doubled that in a few months. And worse is looming with starvation, exposure and disease.
And now Israel pushing boundaries with the killing in Lebanon.

"Hasan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, says the killing of Hamas's powerful deputy leader will "not go unpunished".
Saleh al-Arouri died in a drone attack in Beirut on Tuesday. Israel has not confirmed it was responsible." (BBC)

Israel just seems intent on provocation.

Yep, they want white Republican boys....the few main sign ups to the US army....to die in wars against their enemies.

They will do everything they can to make this a wider war.....If the US weren't backing them both militarily and economically they wouldn't be doing any of this because frankly they couldn't afford to.

Biden.....quite understandably does not want another war, simply because it's more economic and political negativity for him. However, he also is scared of upsetting the donor class who control him and most of the politicians.

The US is engaged in considerable self harming but hey.

Isn't this the crux of it though?

My understanding was that Israel has always been 'Little America' in the ME, allowing the US to have a base in a geographical location of extreme importance to them.

The Israelis have some historical claim to the land but rely on the military power of the US to remain in residence there. The Palestinians have the same claim but more modern and less militarily backed. Both sides refuse to concede anything to the other and whilst the US still want 'an Israel' they will still have it, until such time any opposing side has the military power to take them on.

The US, and it's partners (us) have to carefully handle the narrative around the whole thing to maintain their interests whilst on the ground untold numbers die, many of whom are children. The longer this rumbles on the more damaging it is for them (and us) as they now have to fully commit to, and be aligned with, anything the Israelis do however the noisier and busier Hamas et al are, the more reputation, financial and other damage the West incurs.

Happy for any of that to be torn apart, not an area of knowledge for me at all, I just thought I'd add two cents there!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

i doubt anyone would have a serious claim to be an expert on Middle-East politics.
A lot of posturing going on, after Israel's alleged incursions into Lebanon.
Israel seems to be gambling that the USA will back up with military assistance if things get hot. As we;ve seen in Ukraine, the US seems to lack the stomach for getting involved.

"Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have issued defiant statements vowing to continue their attacks on any vessel passing their coast that they consider has links to Israel.
Their actions have now been unanimously condemned by the UN and, perhaps more significantly, a statement late on Wednesday by the US and 11 other nations implicitly warns the Houthis to stop or "bear the consequences".(BBC)

"The killing of Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy Hamas leader, in Beirut on Tuesday elevated tensions in Lebanon even further, renewing fears of a wider war in the region. The attack hit the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, a stronghold of the powerful Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah.
In a speech yesterday, Hasan Nasrallah, the influential Hezbollah leader, described it as a "flagrant Israeli aggression" that could not go unpunished." (BBC)
