Yep agree. Just need to hope we can get something out of an injury hit Sheffield, a depleted Wolves and a Toney'less Brentford. Soon to be managerless Wolves, seems there's been a major falling out, the bbc are reporting it, Gary O'Neill is in the frame to replace. Edited by eagleman13 (08 Aug 2023 4.03pm)
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Andersen must stay. It's impressive how we can turn defence into attack thanks to his passing ability. We never had that previously. His use of the ball is impressive, though I remain concerned at the ease with which he turns nothing long balls and hopefully crosses into goalscoring chances for our opponents. We would miss his long passing if he was sold, but we could buy a decent 'stopper' of a centre-back to replace him for a fraction of the fee, and probably be a better side defensively for it. My concern would be more about the domino effect within the squad if Andersen were sold than about losing the actual player, but I'd feel the same about many of the 'assets' we have. Outside of Eze and Olise they are all replaceable as individual players, very much so in some cases. It's dealing with churn that worries me. Edited by TheBigToePunt (08 Aug 2023 4.16pm)

My concern would be more about the domino effect within the squad if he were solid, but I'd feel the same about any of the 'assets' we have. I think that's understandable. Andersen is a bit of an assumption buster in being a 6ft3/4/5inch Dane you'd expect a bit of a hard nut stopper but this is a bit of a fault in his game. Doesn't win anywhere near the headers I'd expect, not greatly mobile which I might expect but sometimes questionable in his positioning and defensive instincts. Instead, and ironically for me, his strengths seem to lie in his playmaking and general footballing ability from the back. If you were looking at either, I think Marc might be the easier to replace in that we would just go for the stereotypical 'stopper' alongside Andersen who would still bring some physical presence. We'd also get more wonga for Marc (I suspect). If Andersen goes we lose that out, long ball and thta may be far harder to replace.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Click bait is saying the loan deal for Hall is done bar the medical. One year loan no option to buy. He has just signed a 5 year deal.

To repeat what others have probably written, Palace's POTY this season and England call up; back to Chelsea who refuse to sell; he has a lackluster season and loses his international place; then off to West Ham for £50m where he continues to under-perform. You know, people whine about us blooding for Chelsea but, in some ways, that scenario is not all bad.

I've said it before and will don my tin hat here prior to saying it again, but I personally think both Andersen and Guehi, good players though they are, are relatively overrated. As you say, the former doesn't punch his weight at all. For me, the latter is just too short for his position and has skills that would be better suited to a possession-dominating side who press high. He would then spend more time using his ability on the ball and his pace, which are his main attributes. A centre-back for a side outside the top six is likely to have to defend the penalty box a lot more, where height and strength in the air matter. We have let in an inordinate number of goals following crosses from our right to the zone that Guehi and Mitchell police. It became apparent last season that opposition coaches were targeting that area, and may be a big part of the reason why we have switched from an excellent shot-stopping goalkeeper to a taller, more aggressive one. As per my last post, my fear in selling either is simply that it will start the ball rolling and they will all want to go, through that seems an inevitable part of our current strategy anyway. Edited by TheBigToePunt (08 Aug 2023 5.07pm) Agree with every word TBTP. Whilst it all sounds quite damning I think they’re a very good duo for us despite their respective shortcomings. I also think for the reasons you’ve highlighted both may be considered as having higher value to bigger and better teams than they do for us, ironically and in direct contrast to Wilf where he was invaluable to us but not to the big guns. Hence the interest and speculation in both players. I also feel similarly in either domino falling. If one goes the other might but also they are equally the literal and metaphorical foundation on which our team exists. A lot of doubt and over the shoulder looking may arise if that defensive alliance is broken and the whole team might look a bit shaky. Equally, if we keep both, it will definitely make everything look a bit more stable to me, if not perfect.
