Trying to blame Wilf for not impressing at United when actually the problem was a t*** club and a t*** manager.

Usual clutch of moron comments as well.

More interesting is the time he spent with the England U21s. Puts a different angle on things, if true.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I had a perfect view of the Wilf/Walker battle that day second half. Wilf got nothing from ref for many and various pull backs and obstructions by Walker.

Interesting thing was TFM totally owned Sane

With a weakened team we stopped the most prolific team in the league from scoring and we should’ve won the game all down to Hodgsons tactics and the willingness of the players to follow those instructions. Wilf played a different game to usual under those instructions and when told to switch and attack the weaker wing he got the pen. He was magnificent and deserved all the praise he got from Roy.
It might’ve been the only criticism in your post but it was unfounded.

The media seem to have a dislike/distrust of successful young black players. They seem to conform to barking out stereotypes of them being lazy trouble makers. Sterling has seen much worse than Zaha, but it's not that dissimilar. The stories about Wilf never seem to correspond with what our managers have said and he always comes across as well mannered and caring. Is he a bit arrogant? Of course, but then who wouldn't be with his talent.

The other thing is the media seem stuck in the past with the image of a Zaha that is wasteful and inconsistent. How often nowadays do we have a game where he has no impact? They are the exception, unlike maybe three or four years ago. Garth Crooks seems to have him in his team of the week almost every week (although I'm not convinced he actually watches the games).

It has been well documented that when Zaha joined United he was given little support and felt alone and isolated. After a strong preseason Moyes decided to ship him off to cardiff while playing that young Belgian lad who has since disappeared from my radar. He is a player who obviously needs support and in my opinion it is United that failed him, not the other way around. His development is proof of this. He is not an isolated case, look what happened with Pogba and Rossi.

The media have an obsession that to be a success you must play for one of the big clubs. Ironically, they also question players when they seem to lack loyalty. Zaha is a rare player in the current game. He is someone who embraces his community, shows loyalty to his family, friends and club and who consistently turns out truly entertaining performances. Maybe he will one day join a big, soulless club again, but for now he can be part of the red and blue family with fans that love him and who appreciate him for who he is, not who some blind-sighted hack thinks he should be.

The media as you call it loves for example Matt Le Tissier who never played for a top club.

I don't buy into the Rascist card for STerling and certainly don't want Wilf dragged into that.

Lets see who the racist media have as top pundits,,,,, Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Jermaine Pennant etc etc

We even have unitellligible scousers and others so its a level field from where I look

I don't know why Ian Wright decided to open a can of worms that had no worms in it

Matt Le Tissier is a pretty old example. He retired 15 years ago.

I genuinely believe that there is racism in the media, whether conscious or subconsious. In the case of the The Sun, The Daily Mail and the Express it is probably conscious. The Mail ran a campaign highlighting Harry Kane (the most Aryan player in the squad) as the ideal English footballer after a smear campaign against Sterling. Another example is the Mail using Mo Salah as a tool for its anti-Islam campaign (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5787547/Liverpool-star-Mo-Salahs-injury-Gods-punishment-preacher-claims.html)

Cheers, wouldn't have read that without you posting it. Puts it in a bit more context, if true as you say.

Slightly different tangent, but from my experience going way back, players with natural talent have always been maligned by the gutter press - I think of the likes of Stanley Bowles, Alan Hudson, Matt Le Tissier, Glenn Hoddle etc.
George Best got away with it but perhaps that's because he was Man U.

The sports media bend over backward to promote all things minority and or female. What media have you been looking at?
Wilf got stick because he had a reputation for having a bad attitude in his younger days a he is also perfect pundit material, formally for 'not being the finished article' and now with everyone tyring to sell him to a 'bigger' club.
The media is its own reality. Pundits have to use airtime by talking bollocks and the paper and internet press make up nonsense all day long.

I think Wilf was thrown into the advertising hoardings while off balance on one leg in that 2nd half about 18 yards from the corner flag. That cheating cvnt Walker was allowed to, by the cvnt ref, get away with his sh1t defending because without it he would’ve been beaten and everyone knew it. It was worse than Bournemouth and Huddersfield. The recent discussions on this match are embarrassing.

The media want to sell newspapers and will often put a slant on stories that promotes to their readers perceived views. Racism exists in our society so we can never be sure that this does not pervade media comments. However there is a danger that any criticism of a black player will be perceived as racist rather than his performance on pitch.

Sterling's performances for England in World Cup were perceived as not good by the public and he did not show the talent he unbdoutably has. His tattoo of a gun was jumped upon by the media and the same papers that were critical have mentioned his new tattoo in more favorable terms. Is this criticism racist?

A lot has been said about Wilf and his Man U experience. It is quite clear that he did not impress and that may be for a variety of reasons. United have had a number of sucessful black players over the years. There were comments attributed to senior players about his attitude etc. The Wilf that returned was short of confidence and The most common criticsm (from Ian Wright if I remember) was lack of end product and consistency. I think these were factors in why he lost his England Place. I don't remember him impressing on his 2 England caps.

He has developed greatly over the last few years. He has developed consistency and end product together with a more mature attitude. He is now is probably one of the best if not the best player to wear a Palace shirt. I certainly think he is a loss to England and I do think Gareth Southgate tried to change his mind
