You assume that people have no desire to assimilate. For my generation it's not even an issue - we are all one and the same if we all grew up together. Genuinely feel sorry for the generation that are so petrified by it all. Do you think we can absorb 200.000 for ever?

Do you think that moving closer to Middle Eastern/Islamic culture would be progress for the UK, and West in general? When you invite large numbers of a particular culture, they're going to bring that culture with them. When you over exaggerate an argument you make it look silly. How is around 5% of the population "large"? How many of that 5% are still clinging to the culture of their birth/and/or parents? If 95% of the population doesn't want to change their culture then they won't. It's much more likely, as has always happened, that the smaller culture gradually disseminates and largely becomes absorbed. Just as a silly point which helps understanding. Do you know the most popular meal with UK Muslims for breaking their daily fast during Ramadan? It's KFC with chips!

Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Aug 2018 9.36am) Oh my goodness, that's the kind of bs you find on Trump supporting groups. Being progressive simply means learning and making things better. A tumour becomes a better tumour that way. Not good for it's host maybe. A progressive society learns from the past and avoids the mistakes. A regressive society wants to turn back the clock and return to things as they were. Which is always impossible. The idea that being progressive has any connection with "communism" is just risible. There is none. None of this has any bearing at all on whether "Robinson" is right or wrong.

The 5 percent you refer to was from the 2011 census. Ten years previous to that it was half that size. The Islamic population is doubling every ten years. Come 2021 it's likely to be double again somewhere around 10 percent. When we get to 2031 things may be under threat in terms of secularism in this country. The government has already done the projections of what lies ahead for England and it's a disaster for the English. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Aug 2018 6.26am)
