True. But at the same time it's reasonable to be realistic about what we might get out of him in the next five games.

He is earning per week what most posters on this
site take at least 2 years to earn.

In that context little sympathy

Comparing his wages to an ordinary person is a null point - the finances in the industry he works in is not his fault.

I've said before on this board; if you don't think professional footballers have any sort of professional pride, or indeed are immune to huge criticism, simply because they earn lots of money, you are miles off.

I have no doubts that Benteke is as frustrated as anyone at quite how s*** he's been - he's going to miss the opportunity to represent his country at the World Cup, in what should be the prime of his career - how can you think that wouldn't bother him?

If footballers solely cared about earnings, they would all piss odd to China or the States in their early 20s, and never return to Europe.

Except the days of crazy China money going forward are over.

The problem is generally, and not only applying to Benteke, the contract means he can perform inadequately week in week out and still get paid whereas in most walks of life such under achievement would lead to a warnings followed by termination.

Whether or not he is a nice guy and / or feels terrible is not relevant.

Other teams have 15M purchases or less in many cases earning half or less who perform better, that's not an attack on CB it's reality, but then we have a number of currently contracted players who don't seem to be contributing but CB stands out

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I think we can all analyse the reasons how, why, what, if....etc.. for weeks/months with regards to Benteke’s loss of form.

What I do know is confidence breeds confidence...

I for one will certainly be cheering him on Saturday (I sit near the touch line in the Main Stand) and make sure he hears my supportive screams....

‘Go on Christian my son, your a legend...good luck fella’. or words kind of like that.

Fortress Selhurst needs to get behind all the team for the next 3 home games. Win them all, and we stay up!

I think the Brighton game will be a defining one for him either way - if he puts in an aggressive performance, gets stuck into Brighton and scores, this could be a turning point. If he puts in his usual sort of half-arsed performance and misses a couple of sitters, I don't see how anyone will be able to have any patience left for this man.

Look let's get down to the core, if Benteke was busting a gut every week and looking like he was putting everything he had into turning things around; the supporters I am sure would have sympathy for the many misses, simply because he was trying but he has done himself no favours with game after game just going through the motions and the fingers in the ears at Leicester was two fingers to the many who pay good money to watch him, especially away from home. I think Roy deserves a medal for sticking with him but as we all know what are the options.

Bring back Brolin

Benteke showed his thoughts about us fans when he scored at Leicester, he should have been outed from the club after the Bournemouth debacle. Any other industry you would have been sacked for gross misconduct. Sue him for the points lost.

Years back, down at Mitcham, I had the pleasure of watching Ray Lewington 'work' a Palace player (I think Bruce Dyer) intensely on goalscoring, balls coming from everywhere, with the emphasis on scoring, working the 'keeper, at least hitting the target. Some of his time spent with Benteke MIGHT just build some confidence.

That sounds like a good idea. Trouble is that there is still no viable alternative. That is not Benteke’s fault.

I'm sure roy and ray hadn't thought of that.

It didn't do Dyer any good!
