EU countries should pay for their own defence.

Too busy with the filthy lucre. No fun anymore those two. I don't think that's the case. The need to compete for territory, as a means of status and economic power, was gone, with the demise of the British and French Empires, the world changed dramatically. Before WWII the influence of the US, on the economy and global stage, was f**ked from 1929 onwards. Post WWII empires and territory was no longer relevant. The US and wealth production was the new source of political capital, economy etc and the competition was the Soviet and Sino-Communists. As such the future of European nations, really was re-defined by the need for mutual co-operation, rather than competition. For those across Europe, as the national liberation movements flared, was really about which 'way' they would go, Capitalism or Socialism. Empire was a dead beast, it could not compete post war with the socialism and the power of US capitalism. You could even see this in the divisions within the UK, with the rise of Labour and Trade Unionism. WWIII was fought through proxies, and called the Cold War. We didn't call it WWIII because it was 'different', the wars were fought around the world, by the super powers. Not so much for territory per se, but for access to resources and markets.

VOTING OUT - Brexit will allow Britain to embrace the Commonwealth and be GREAT again |

Doesn't matter who wins, or by how much, the other side will bleat about 'biased liberal/right wing media', rigged votes etc etc. I suspect when it comes down to it, the In camp will win- people will vote cautiously, for the status quo, especially if they're not sure. Will be close whatever- probably no more than 55-45 whichever way. Batten down the hatches for the last hysterical shrieking from both sides- latest is that staying in the EU will (somehow) push up housing market- presumably to try and appeal to younger voters. Madness and complete BS arguments and 'facts' from both sides, increasingly nonsensical and crazed!

Whilst people will receive a registration card, you still need to be on the local electoral roll in order to receive a ballot. When you go into the polling station, you hand over the card, they check you against the electoral register, and then if you are on it, you get a ballot. So even if you've accidently gotten a referendum voting card, you still need to be a registered UK voter, eligible to vote in UK elections, in order to trade that in for a ballot

Madness and complete BS arguments and 'facts' from both sides, increasingly nonsensical and crazed! Quite, because neither side will be able to accept that they 'aren't the will of the people'. The 'Out' campaign already seem to be getting their knickers in a twist, over 'non-UK citizens' receiving polling cards, without remembering that polling stations verify these against the electoral register before issuing a ballot. Iain Duncan Smith, you'd think, would know how the basic process of voting works... The only successes of the Out and In campaigns have been me realising I don't like the representation of both of them.

Yes indeed. It's all good news, Hoof. City traders are planning for sterling to drop 20% on Brexit and the dollar to go up 20%. It's going to be great. Completely agree with that! The ££ is far too strong, so we'll be able to export more. Plus the promised drop in house prices, and (as the leader of the Remain campaign told us) higher wages for workers. Might even be able to get on the property ladder.
