I'll admit it is a tricky one. For instance if there was a ward related to surgery for broken bones and the like of younger people then I can't imagine that having covid on top would be the disaster of the century. It's more that there are clearly a decent percentage of people in hospital who could be adversely impact by it, in addition to it undermining the treatment they are already getting. As in you certainly wouldn't want covid ripping through a cancer ward, or a ward full of old people. I think it's sensible to remove staff if they come down with it, on account that it's basically a week off, accepting that there may be consequences of that too, but that they are likely more short lived. In a couple of months time, things will likely have died right down case number wise, and in theory at least people will have yet more protection making it even less of an issue than it may already be becoming. Well, I think you are talking common sense here....however, this isn't coming down the pipe from our leaders and media. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Jan 2022 3.09pm)

I took no offence, nothing wrong with a bit of spunk in someone. I'm unintentionally sounding like Kenny Everett.

I think or hope we're approaching the tailend of it all and am glad that we're riding this one out and avoiding the lockdown. How we got to that place is a bit farcical though as if it wasn't down for those countless parties being highlighted and the resulting anger I bet they'd have locked us down again.

Yep, it certainly feels like that.

I'm reasonably sure that it's not something I've said as its not really a term I see myself using. But who knows .
I tend to try to breeze by argumentative interactions on here nowadays as its not like it gets anyone anywhere, plus time is precious and you can't get it back

Over time new variants that take hold should (in theory) slow, plus we should have more and more protection against a whole myriad of variants, as well as likely broader treatments or vaccines, or possibly a one and done. I think for anyone other than the vulnerable and elderly vaccine will start to become very much optional before long even if it doesn't appear that wayright now.

I'm too old for all that now. I've tried to get DanH to have an arm's wrestle but that's largely good natured from my side and something he's swerved like Hamilton approaching a corner.

We will be through it soon I hope. The amount of people who told me they were going to ignore any household restrictions this time, on account that it's one rule for us, one for them... So I think his hands were tied this time. I'm relieved for businesses too, as they've got so much of a kicking already and even without another lockdown the timing of this new wave was a real kick in the teeth. Yes, the vaccination take up and new variant appear to have resulted in a situation that we're getting through without too many issues other than maybe a few weeks in hospitals. Let's hope that 2022 is nothing like the previous 18 months and that brighter days are ahead.

I've seen a few of these squaring up things on here, but I'm not sure that anyone really means them when push comes to shove. It's more heat of the moment and if there genuinely was some kind of real life HOL brawl as result of online arguments I can't really think of anything more absurd. And in todays world thats saying something. From the way things are going online, maybe you'll get to have the arm wrestle in the metaverse! [Link] I read the other day that the real world is getting so depressing and limiting for many young people (hard to buy a house and so on) that many are going all in on a kind of online meta future. Part technology in action, part world gone mad!

Yeah, that's unfortunate but in public rooms it'll happen.....Friend invite only sees off the weirdos in most cases. While I enjoy VR I have to agree with you on that larger picture. Technology shouldn't be used as a replacement for real interaction but I fear that's the direction of travel and it's out of the hands of most....and it'll be sitting on the head of most within years. I use VR and it's largely fun and useful, though yes, the pitfalls are obvious. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Jan 2022 4.10pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Jan 2022 4.10pm) Yes, I can see how it could all get a bit dystopian with a future where we're all living in little boxes plugged up to a virtual world, and that even the virtual house is kind of s***ty because we don't have enough tokens or something . They'll probably even throw a virtual covid in the mix. Can't have us getting away from it that easily!
