Thought he was great last year, the only time he was dominated was by Kyle Walker, but he switched sides and within a few minutes won us a penalty that would have been city’s first loss of the season.
It’s not an embarrassment when a defender has your number, like Cole did with Ronaldo, just swap sides.

In that game Zaha was under instructions to stop Walker from attacking which he did magnificently. Hodgson identified Walker as pivotal but Wilf kept him so busy that he didn’t attack until Wilf switched wings. Far from being a bad game for Wilf it was one of his best for the team !

Hopefully he stays for next season and then joins Steve kember, jim cannon, Simon Rodger, dougie freedman and Jules, becoming the 6th player to get a testimonial and surprisingly would make us 2nd to man u on the amount of players to have been awarded a testimonial at club level in England.

Have Liverpool not had more?

Carragher, Gerrard, Rush, Aldridge, Dalglish, Thompson etc.

Optimistic as ever

Moderately interesting article in the Mail that discusses that very subject....

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Ok mate. So he was told that the way to stop Walker, was to lose the ball to him, every time he tried to take him on?
But then when he switched wings to go past the player and draw a penalty?
Zahas a top player mate, but your rose tinted glasses might want a clean.

First of all I’m not your mate!
Secondly you need to understand the game.
Nobody beats Walker for pace so don’t knock Wilf for not out running him.
What he did do was to work unselfishly for the team to keep Walker quiet which he did until he was told to switch wings.
Trying to knock Wilf for that one game is wrong and sad.

I reckon Wilf will be with us for a good while. Sadly he has now missed out on any serious international stage and what a cock up that was. Thanks Gareth.
However, Wilf opted for Ivory Coast showing his deep rooted loyalties to his real home country.
He has now shown his loyalties to his adopted home of South London and Palace.
Here he has the stage to be a super star in our team and fanatical fans to support him. Unlikely that would happen anywhere else. He would never hear his name sung at Arsenal. Come to that he would never hear any home singing at Arsenal.
So what could be better than earn £6M a year play in the premier for your local team with all your family and friends around you. Plus enjoy the phenomenal growth of that club both on and off the pitch.
And you are the super star. Doesn’t get better than that.
He will lead us into Europe. With the squad we have now got and with Parish ambition champions league is round the next corner.
And if the wheels come off well he can think again.
Wilf is a young guy with a very wise head on his shoulders.
He has made personally a great decision and in doing it he has made 50,000 + people very very happy.
Good on you Wilf you are a true star.

You’ve taken the one negative that I put in my post and try and make a big deal out of it.
If you think that our best attacking player nullifying a Man City full back , in a team with De Bruyne, aguero, Silva, Sane, Jesus, sterling etc is understanding the game , them I’m afraid you don’t.
He switched wings as he was getting nothing from a player that was quicker, stronger and more savvy than him, on the day. When he did he one the penalty, that unfortunately we missed.
Baines was a decent fullback, Bollasie used to terrorise him, it happens.

You really don’t get it do you?
With a weakened team we stopped the most prolific team in the league from scoring and we should’ve won the game all down to Hodgsons tactics and the willingness of the players to follow those instructions. Wilf played a different game to usual under those instructions and when told to switch and attack the weaker wing he got the pen. He was magnificent and deserved all the praise he got from Roy.
It might’ve been the only criticism in your post but it was unfounded.

Ok. Can you let me know what instructions he has been getting from Hodgeson this week in training , if our £135,000 a week forward and most likely game changer will be used to stop the threat of James Milner on Monday , I might give it a miss.
Regards.
