I suppose judge other cultures that have entered our shores - and there at plenty of them. The Irish, the Huguenots, various waves of Jews, the Windrush, African Asians... All had trouble adjusting; all were initially despised by their hosts; but now...

Look at what the culture brings that you don't like; and then try and have a think about what it brings that you do like. There is a lot that I don't like. However, on the latter, I will say some ancient positive cultural traditions that predate and enrich ours, hard work and strong family values.

A lot of my mates born in Britain but from different countries/ethnic backgrounds are just as British in the way the act, the things they say and what they are interested in as my mates who are British through and through.

You assume that people have no desire to assimilate. For my generation it's not even an issue - we are all one and the same if we all grew up together.

Genuinely feel sorry for the generation that are so petrified by it all.

I use to think like this. Initially it was a shock to me to realise that the 'total assimilation' concept was a myth. I use to think (hope) that people would just become English/western.....some will, most won't....most will become a variation.

You see you make the point that you know many who assimilate and it's true, a significant minority do.....assimilate to degrees....Depending upon how different they are culturally. However, think of who you are mixing with....they are probably filtered? The majority aren't going to view the world through a European lens.

There are people I can think of that I have zero problems with and I know that they are a benefit....mainly because they have completely assimilated and are western and English.

What you don't seem to get is that it's a numbers game.

Different cultures assimilate to different degrees and amounts. Family background makes a difference.

Besides the rate of immigration makes the whole assimilation argument meaningless anyway.

By 2050 the English will have become a minority in England......and it's completely the fault of idealogs.
