I think what Pardew allardyce and probably now de boer like about Hennessy is his presence in the penalty area, but as we all know what Jules lacks in presence, he makes up for in agility. I've lost count of the times I've thought 'jules would've got that' when watching Hennessy lumbering across in a failed attempt to keep the ball out, even coutino's free kick at Anfield and carroll's effort away at the spammers!! So basically if jules had been numero uno all last season we wouldn't have let a single goal in

Now go and watch Luka's free kick against WBA in Hong Kong where exEngland and very good keeper Ben Foster didn't get close to savng it. Now tell me if you think both keepers at those free kicks were poor or do you think they were just brilliant free kicks? As for expecting ANY goalkeeper to have saved Carroll's goal of the month overhead volley word'sfail me.

Speroni is a very good shot stopper, but he wasn't perfect. Hennessey has better distribution, is generally better in the air, is pretty good in one on ones and has made some excellent saves in the last 18 months. There was a reference a few days ago to Hennessey 'inviting long shots' but that is rubbish. What invites long shots is no pressure from midfield, giving people time and space, something which Speroni and Hennessey have been exposed by on occasion.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |
