Pele still gets feted for his 1970 World Cup shimmy when he put the ball to one side of the keeper and then ran round his other side to collect it. But he missed!

Don Rogers did the same to Alex Stepney in 1972 and scored - and should be similarly celebrated. A fantastic goal.

There was also Don's solo effort against Stoke at home.

Yes, the Jim Cannon goal against Ipswich was special.

Ian Walsh's headed goal against Burnley in '79 which sent 51,000 people into ecstasy will always live with me.

Yeah i remember that! it was a great strike!

Hopkin playoff final and Dougie's volley against sunderland few months before we played them in the playoffs..it was 3-0 that night.

The best goal i can remember is.....

Um.....????

Nicky Rizzo against Norwich(H)! (W 4-1?)
Can't remember what season though.
I was in the Holmesdale Upper Tier and Nicky was shooting towards the Whitehorse Stand.
All I can really remember was him shooting from about 30-35 yards and the ball had great swerve on it!
WHAT A GOAL!!!

Dean Gordon 1993 (?) v Derby - injury time and CPFC losing 1-0 Dean picks it up about 35 yards out and belts it top corner - the ball was still rising when it hit the net

Yes, I was there. But what about the rest of the story? The same thing happened against Palace this time - i.e. the oppo scored, the ball bounced back off the stanchion, and the ref gave no goal. There were protests and the ref asked the Palace players if the ball had gone in. Far as I know, it was Steve Kember who admitted it had done, and the goal was given. I also think that in the Coventry match, the ref asked one of the Coventry players, and he said: "You're the ref, not me."
These are memories from way back - anyone sure of the full story?

I'm beginning to think I've got this the wrong way round. I think it was at the Palace that the oppo scored a goal that hit the stanchion and bounced out. The ref disallowed it, there was confusion all round, and Stevie Kember told the ref it had gone in. I was on the Holmesdale terrace at the time and knew the ball had gone in, and I was amused when the ref disallowed it. It all seemed too good to be true and then the ref gave it anyway. Then, I think, the same thing happened to the Palace at an away match, but this time the goal wasn't given.

Can anyone help get this straight?

Looks like it was at Coventry on September 6 1980. Palace lost 3-1. It was Clive Allen's goal that was disallowed, although he did score the one that counted.

Does anyone remember the home match when the ref at first disallowed the oppo's goal which had hit the stanchion, but then changed his mind after talking to Stevie K?

It was a goal scored - or rather not - by us at home. Can't remember the player but I think whoever it was it was their debut. Ball hits stanchion at the Holmesdale end and ricochets back into play. Ref decides it's a goal - opposition go nuts. Eventually ref speaks to Steve Kember and whatever was said the result was no goal.

Steve Staunton's goal from the half-way line against Tranmere. Ball's cleared, Staunton spots the 'keeper off his line and he clipped it over him. Awesome.

yep I remember this one as well, purely for the fact that me and a few pals were sitting behind the dugouts when Deano went flying past with the ball and someone from the Derby bench shouted "SHOOT" so he did and what a goal!!! classic. Dad of OllieMaidstoneEagle
