I don’t but it appears you do.

I don’t know, because I haven’t seen the brief.

There must though be quite a lot more to this than is suggested by the Mail’s “anti-woke” story froth.

£800,000 is a lot of money for a 3 year research project which almost certainly will be primarily the responsibility of students, who are themselves paying for the privilege of taking part. Any University staff will be salaried. So the money is for additional costs. That’s a lot of airfares and accommodation!

I don’t know but instinctively my trust in the story is low. Something doesn’t add up. Maybe they got too many 0s in the total!

No, I don't think there is anything else and if there was it's unlikely the university wouldn't have confirmed it over the past few days.
Opinions will differ on the merit of this project but even those who think it worthwhile should concede it could be done from a library in Edinburgh as well as it could by jetting around the world.

I expect they don't have Zoom in those backward islands

I doubt whether the University would bother saying anything at all. All that would do is prolong the fuss rather than letting it disappear back into the muck it was raked up from.

Without knowing what is intended it's impossible to conclude anything. I would guess though that interviews on the ground with current inhabitants are thought necessary and not simply trawling through historical records. We don't know. We aren't involved.

I doubt whether anyone on here is involved in the running of CPFC, or indeed the country, but it doesn't stop opinions being voiced.
In any case personal experience has been expressed on different threads and you've disputed it because it doesn't match your preconceptions.
Would you be defending this project if the BBC had published it rather than the Daily Mail?
When "right wing" outlets don't report anti-Trump stories it's evidence of their perfidy but when the BBC don't report stories its proof of their journalistic integrity.

When people here comment on the running of CPFC they do with a level of personal interest and, generally, some knowledge and experience. If they commented on Brighton or Truro City, only a small number would. Same with running the country. We are all invested in that.

If the BBC had published the story in the same way then it would receive the same criticism. I very much doubt they would though. Firstly because they are unlikely to think it newsworthy and secondly, if they did, it wouldn’t make the insinuations.

Right-wing, or left-wing outlets publish to an agenda. The BBC, despite the cynical views of some here, doesn’t.

Not wanting to rehash the BBC argument the only worthwhile knowledge and experience fans have is of the perceived strengths and weaknesses of players and tactics. Not of how the club is run. Same with running the country.

I am not sure that’s true. Those who have been around for a while, in my case for 70 years of following Palace, have seen several regimes come and go and get some understanding of how the club is run. I have also known 2 former players as friends so get to hear things from the inside. We might not sit at board meetings but we have more idea about this than we do about what’s driving a research project in a University we have no connection with. Anyone interested in politics has opinions about how to run the country, based on observation and political beliefs. Not as detailed as a MP but again better informed than on the University project about which we know nothing other than that appearing in the Mail.

Alright, so 999 fans out of a thousand don't have any particular knowledge of how the club is run.
An opinion on how the country SHOULD be run is different to knowing how it IS run.
Until any evidence emerges to the contrary I'll continue to think this is a waste of money; others' speculation about other factors notwithstanding.
