I am normally very optimistic no matter who we play but I really feel like a very bad beating is on the cards tonight. Absolutely dreading this game.

We are the worst in the division at scoring and defending corners.
Are close to top of the list at getting done on counter attack.

There is so much wrong at the moment that I can see a 4/5 nil hammering.

I was honestly relieved at the WHUvARS score last night, was a bit of a 'not being the only kid who didn't do their homework' moment. At least we might not be alone in any humiliation.

You never know, it is football, but I am imagining they will at least score 2 and am not braced for us scoring at all let alone fashioning chances.

The insanity of Hodgson setting us up for nothing more than a 0-0 and failing to achieve it yet again will not change anything however, it will be accepted as a 'well it's Chelsea, what did you expect, Olise/Eze are out etc.' moment.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Johnstone

Munoz Andersen Richards Mitchell

Ayew Wharton Lerma Schlupp

Mateta Edouard

We have sod all midfield creativity available, so go 4-4-2, go direct to Mateta, and get Edouard around him. Try and get them on the break. If we even try taking a touch Gallagher/Fernandez/Caicedo will be all over the lack of ability on the ball we have.

I expect us to lose by the odd goal, but I also expect a battling performance. The classic Palace one where you play just well enough not to get a result e.g. the Liverpool game.

It is within the realms of possibilities that it will not be long in the match before our supporters vent their spleens turning Selhurst Park into a tsunami of toxicity.

My mind is set on a 2-0 or 3-0 victory to Chelsea.

If the players work hard and keep it tight....0-3 Chelsea.

This would certainly not quell the deep unrest of our supporters and there will be self-combusting with steam emitting from ears.
There will be calls for the removal of the manager, tuba-like voices booming with disgust.

This is the team I think we will start with:

Henderson

Munoz Andersen Richards Mitchell

Hughes Wharton

Ayew Lerma Schlupp

Mateta

Btw, I have no idea why Johnstone is not starting.

I think you have chosen the team Roy is most likely to put out.

As for why Johnstone is not starting, Roy has clearly set out his stall on that.

As I recall, he said that the club have 2 quality keepers. The only reason Johnstone lost his place was because he was injured. Roy went on to say that he wouldn't swap and change his keepers for the sake of it and that the jersey was the incumbent's to lose, i.e., if his form fell off.

From my standpoint, Henderson had a very good first game (at the Etihad) but showed signs of weakness in the home Brighton game but got away with it. He has done OK since then but no more than that. The goals in the 3 recent games seem to have been mainly down to poor defending by those in front of him. However, he does seem weak when it comes to commanding the six-yard box and I do wonder whether the defenders in front of him have sufficient confidence in him. Just my opinion. Personally, I feel more comfortable watching Johnstone between the sticks.

Almost as annoying as our poor form is the fact that we have lost something like 12 in a row to Chelsea and conceded the winner late to them in last three of our last four (apologies of my stats are a bit out).

I was just hoping that we score with a badly deflected goal or an OG (remember the JT OG?) and then Chelsea forget where the goal is for the rest of the game but very typical of our luck they've just discovered their form. If they play like they did against Villa I can, like others on here, see a heavy home defeat on the cards.

I believe I mentioned on HOL when we acquired Henderson that he had a weakness when the ball is in the air and he is surrounded by players.

If we can keep it tight in the first half and put pressure on them I can see us nicking a draw. Chelsea will be desperate if its 0 - 0 at HT.
If they score in the first half and we don't reply then I fear a long second half for us.
