Just read that Blackburn are asking 25.000.000 so most probably goodbye. Of course the asking price is ridiculous, but Blackburn are trying to make the best of it. Good luck to them.

Eze and Olise have both trebled in value so we have all the equity in the bank and we can’t fork out £23-25m for a player who might also double in value. Just bloody sign him. Edited by XKudu (29 Jan 2024 11.55am) Having a value doesn't give you money in the bank. It isn't crystallised. You may live in a house with a value of £500 000. This doesn't mean you can buy something for £500 000 ( unless you crystalise (sell) it and then you will have the money, but no house).

A house is a defined asset, a footballer not so much. I've never heard of a footballer being remortgaged. Too much risk to be taken by the mortgager. Footballers value generally plummet after a certain age. Not so true for houses.

Didn't Risdale and Leeds go down the mortgage route to finance new players and look how that turned out! In terms of Wharton he looks a great prospect but is he a nailed on starter now? This time last year we needed a CM. We bought a prospect from Germany, who has barely kicked a ball since.

I’m sure we have cash in the bank + a flexible bank loan facility which we can draw-down on and as a kind of security the bank takes in account business assets which include players values. In this respect Olise, Eze, Anderson and Guehi will be hugely important to our ability to buy new players easily. That little lot easily have a value of £200m

No, but you was the one who started comparing them to houses but seriously I take your point now, I’ll stick to watching the football Edited by monkey (29 Jan 2024 1.57pm)

I expect the issue is more a case of them wanting him loaned back for the rest of the season. Where as id summise we need somebody to come in and play for the rest of the season. £25 Mill is also a lot for a 19 year old who has a possibility of being decent in the premiership. I don't think Palace can afford to chuck that money at someone who might not work out and especially with Roy at the helm whom has an aversion to playing anybody below a certain age.

The fee of £25 mil is a lot for a 19 year old. But what if he turns out to be another Olise, CD, Eze or Guehi. Then £25 mil looks a bargain. This is the thin line/punt the likes of Brighton have been taking and done so well with. Our buys over the last couple of years have been up there with brightons in terms of how much value the players have gone up, but have not realised this increase as we have not sold any of them. Of course he could also turnout to be a complete flop and not worth £10 mil.

Nixon reporting we have upped our offer to £22m [Link] Some of the biggest deals of recent times have involved deep-lying playmakers (eg Rice), so if he lives up to the hype he could be a huge coup. If he's just good then we still have a long-term squad investment. The only thing is that it doesn't sound like he's perhaps completely reliable defensively, which could be an issue in him playing alongside Lerma.

I think having all the youngsters not getting game time under him is a bit depressing for the likes of Ahameda and Franca (adding all the ones out on loan and academy members also.)
