I haven't seen the foul that led to the red card, but it's being described as a challenge that was over the ball, studs showing, with a straight leg that could have broken Clyne's leg - yet none of the pundits seem to think Calvert-Lewin should've been sent off. Am I missing something? Because everything about the way it's been described sounds like a blatant red card. I'm sure one or two of you might be a bit biased here, but was it the right decision? It sounds pretty cut and dried to me. In my opinion, exactly as you described and a definite red although others disagree. I think Clyne was fortunate it caught the side of his shin rather than full on but he still hobbled off. No malice intended by Calvert Lewin but every player knows you can’t tackle like that.

Thought Eze was still very much off form. Also thought he appeared very reticent to pass to Franca when he would have been in a very good position going forward. Lack of trust?

Shin high + studs up + foot going past/over the ball = Red. If it were a Palace player, I'd be furious at our player and/or the bad luck, not the decision to issue a red card. It's the equivalent of throwing a punch at someone in the street, only glancing their jaw but claiming it does not warrant arrest as the victim was not hurt to any serious degree.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Have to say sending off a tad harsh and if one of ours had been sent off for that we would be abusing the ref IMHO

How do we expect to score a goal playing that way?

Olise and Ayew are a massive miss. No one tonight could control the ball in the final third, hold it up or put a decent pass or even a shot on target apart from one effort by Eze.

It sounds pretty cut and dried to me. There was no intent to foul anyone ,to kick anyone or catch anyone with the studs . It was an attempt to bring the ball under control which he got slightly wrong which made it look a bit clumsy . It was a loose ball that was there to be won .

No problem with Roy's subs. A red card from one angle but not from another, I think yellow would have been sufficient, or we could have simply played to the whistle and got on with the game. No piece of magic to win the game, Everton were the better side, Palace short passed lost possession and went backwards. Hughes went on I think to try and inject some life into proceedings. Not sure what to make of it really.
