I would imagine one of the contributors to this recent success is that under OG we get more players in the oppositions box when we are attacking, this presents them more problems to deal with rather than just JP on his own up there trying to cause mayhem & mischief. We tried to get rid of him a couple of months ago for a couple of millions. What is he worth now? Arsenal is quoted 40 mill. for their sub Eddie Nketiah..JPM is at least worth twice that. Eze/JPM/Olise on top, not many teams can beat that. Edited by thai-eagle (25 Apr 2024 6.08am)

The rise of Mateta is the most joyous individual story of the season. From bogeyman to superstar with a big smile on his face. Yet another major asset. We have our main man up top.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Just shows the difference when we are getting the ball into attacking situations and being pro active and pressing. I’m convinced that Benteke, Sorloth etc would have also done much much better under OG. JPM looks like he is enjoying his football and is now absolutely as integral to this team as Anderson, Eze and Olise. Good for you JPM

Great sentiments, absolutely agree. We’re finally playing a brand of football that benefits our forwards and we have one up front who’s well north of 6ft and knows where the back of the net is. Good times.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

At least we don't need a new centre forward for next season now - just a young up and comer to learn the ropes.

He has turned into an almost complete CF, i think only Watkins is comparable, 11 goals from only 33 shot, 73% shot accuracy, the highest of any CF in the Premier League, and his hold up play, and effort is first class.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

However, our improvements in attack are plain to see. a newfound confidence to get at our opposition, and nail them where it hurts. thank you Oliver and all the attacking front line.

Mateta always looked like he had a good eye for a goal the issue for me was always the rest of his game. Somewhere just before Christmas something changed, whether it was thanks to Roy or one of the coaches, or something, but he suddenly started to show he could hold the ball up, he could make use of his physical presence, and he could do more than get the odd shot away. Glasner comes in, works on the squad's fitness, gets us creating more chances and we have a striker that was already improving massively just waiting to take advantage. I think another noticeable sign of his improvement is that Eze and Olise want to pass to him now. In the past they would often leave him out of anything outside the box, now he's doing cheeky backheels, reverse passes, and living his best Palace life. His "arrival" has been timed with my daughter's blossoming interest in Palace so he is her favourite player and she now proudly walks around with a home-made BOOM BOOM bracelet! He's the antithesis of many modern footballers. He doesn't care about looking cool for the cameras, he wears his heart on his sleeve and is such a loveable guy. I'm so pleased for him and us that he's proving what he is capable of.
