I think it is very hard for any player to make an impact as an attacking player, and even harder for the younger players, JRS, Franca and Ahamada should start against start against Burnley, so we can see if when everyone is starting cold they perform

------Ayew
Franca-Ahamada-JRS

We are not losing much dropping Hughes, Schlupp and Edouard, they will be on the bench if needed.

It's not just the quality and finishing of our attacking players ... it's also our build up, accuracy and speed of delivery. We're too slow and there's far too much passing to and fro. The opposition are all behind the ball by the time we arrive. We miss Zaha and Olise particularly on the wing and Eze in the middle. The youngsters may well introduce a bit of pace but we could do with taking some points from Burnley and Everton. I'm not sure I saw them make a significant impact when they all came on last night.

Roy is not going to start the young players next week
He professed himself happy with the first half performance yesterday when the senior players featured, but less happy with the contribution of the young players in the second half.
It's likely to be the same team next week assuming that Mitchell is fit.
Keep it tight and try and nick a goal will be the mantra until Olise and Eze come back, and this will be regardless of the opposition.
For Roy to be more ambitious he needs to feel confident in the ability of his attacking players, and I'm not sure he has this in the absence of Olise, Eze and Zaha.

Modern day football is all about speed. Watch the top teams in all top leagues and you see speed of passing, thinking, running, shooting etc. etc. In most cases very exciting to watch.
We rarely seem to see players dummying a shot then turning inside, going round two more then shooting. Occasionally maybe but the game is so quick that they are discouraged to do anything like that. It's like top players are learning from the FIFA computer game.
As ive already said, we are just way too slow. Our best two players are out and we dont have any significant replacements as aired by Roy.
We are safe and we will be ok this season, but to keep up we need to recognise where the game is going and respond, by bringing in the right personnel to deliver. I am somewhat concerned we maybe are not looking with the right eyes in the right places. And Im not convinced we have got the funds to deliver the goods.
Here is hoping for some good fortune in many directions for Christmas. At the moment it is all feeling a bit bleak even though Im convinced we are safe.

Nothing unusual there, until the first goal comes from the opposition, and the well intention plan goes out the window with nothing to replace it. I do realise the conundrum Roy is in, what with his more creative players out injured, but I also realise that Roy is totally incapable of trying anything different. That's just the way it is.

We weren't likely to get much out of these two games but if we're sh1t against the bottom teams then questions will inevitably be asked. We need points from our next two - one win minimum.

If this is the case why then did the club spend up to £25m on a relatively untried young Brazilian? How does the club expect Franca to exhibit his potential? I was thinking that Franca would be a starter pretty soon, but Roy has always shown preference to his favourites, and increasingly favourite duffers. Certainly Schlupp no longer brings anything to the party , and as for Ward, he's been Championship material for at least two seasons. Both are guaranteed starters under Roy. Up front Roy still gives Mateta the occasional game, despite him being total pony poo.
Easy to blame the subs, but Roy picks the team and devises the increasingly negative tactics. It really is like Groundhog Day round here.

For your highlight, no good asking me, ask the club? You right to say certain players are no longer better than OK . But none of this is actually Hodgsons fault, I would be surprised if he wouldn’t replace the lot if he could, he can’t and that’s that..
Mateta like many in his squad get game time because there is no one else.
Roy picks the team with what’s at his disposal ,and by your own words many are crap ,so he works with crap, hats off to him.
As I said with a better front three last nights game ,would have probably been won on his tactics, because that would have got the important goal that wasn’t there last night.
He isn’t just frustrated by the kids, for the sake of being, he is frustrated because it’s glaringly obvious he hasn’t got subs that change a game let alone win one.
I hope Franca, comes good , as you say ,a lot of money. I can only think he was feeling the pressure and trying to hard last night, but quite frankly,( no Pune) he was all over the place, looking really rough at the edges. And yes RakSaki was knocked out of the game not for the first time. Didn’t notice the French boy, sort of says it all.

Roy proved last season that if he has the right players available to him, he can play a more attacking style of football. Without Eze and Olise, we lack creativity. Unsurprisingly, and quite rightly in my opinion, Roy came up with a game plan last night that worked well until Wards unfortunate own goal.

You can critisise him for not having a ' Plan B ', but everyone, meaning Roy, most on HOL, and the media all recognise that the squad lacks quality and depth. Spending £40m on a goalkeeper and an untried teenager was not and is not the answer.

Edouard's performance last night brought back memories of a contract job I had at Barclays some years ago. I was paid a very handsome day rate for sitting around doing nothing.

With Schlupp back, no problems down Mitchell's side. They piled onto Wards wing...of course. On 30% possession we created more chances than them first half. We needed to convert at least one of those. Ward OG was a shocker and game over. Spurs didn't play great for 50 minutes but clearly move the ball much sharper than us (as they should with the cost of their squad). Our defence and holding mids were back to their best. Hurry back Eze and Olise or we will struggle at Burnley/Everton/Luton...games we must win. Rak Saki looked lightweight. Franca had a howler. One awful free kick and an appalling corner asks what on earth is he doing taking set pieces.....let's hope it was just nerves and we haven't been sold a pup. Onwards to Turf Moor COYP!

Ha, yeah. The point I'm belabouring is that when one stands back and has a look from that perspective nothing has really changed since Roy's earlier tenure. Expecting something different from the same style of football and squad limitation is rather too hopeful. I did welcome Roy's intention to break into the top 10, well meaning I guess, but we'd need every player fit and up to it. One can but hope.

Lots of sensible opinions on here. With a team like ours you gamble on having your top 6 level players fit, so when Olise and Eze are out we look like strugglers going forward. Solid enough at the back.

It speaks volumes that I get most excited at a player's dribbles when Guehi dummies a pass and goes on one of his little runs. He only tried it once or twice vs Spurs and almost got caught out so didn't try it again.

This next month is crucial. 7 points would be excellent given that I doubt we'll see Eze and Olise back for next weekend. Would bite your arm off for 6 right now though. Anything below that sucks us back into danger.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

Don’t disagree with this assessment. Taking Lerma and Hughes off killed our midfield as those coming on couldn’t fit in and weakened our team. Doucoure was then left on his own. Personally I would have brought on Reidewald to play alongside side Doucoure in the Hope the strength of the midfield from the first half would have been kept. This would have allowed Rak Saki and Franca to attack / receive the ball better. Main problem with starting with Lerma (who isn’t looking match fit at the moment) Doucoure and Hughes is that we don’t have a sub(s) to replace their positions. Hopefully that will change when Eze / Olise are back and then Hughes will be on the bench to replace when needed one of the two central midfielders? We just didn’t have as strong a team for the second half last night and it told when we had to make substitutions. Still thought we did okay last night against a very in form team and could have sneaked a draw with a bit more luck? Let’s see how we go next week before slamming the team and Hodgson?

Ewan Ferguson at Brighton is not yet 19 - does not seem too nervous to me.
