That all sounds about it for me. Hughes and Schlupp the backups to Lerma and Doucoure with Ahamada the back up to Eze. I hope to see a bit more of him. Looks to bring a burst of energy to proceedings which will come in handy through the next campaign Im sure. Lerma has to earn his place above Hughes for me.

I really like Hughes, think he's a great player, but can't help to want for a bit better (rightly or wrongly). I think I am hoping therefore that Jefferson is that 'bit better' and would be the reasoning behind my original post.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

It's an area in which we have cover. Start Lerma and bring on Hughes, and potentially Ahamada, if he starts tiring.

With Luka out of the equation now I think we will see a more interesting use of available subs in the middle if the park. Originally posted by Teddy Eagle

The fact of the matter is though if we dont improve we go backwards and Lerma is an improvement on a few midfielders we have at the club . Doesn't matter to me who the in form player is and though I get some people have favourites starting a merit table before pre season has even started is a bit unfair to everyone at the club .

At his age, jsut having picked up the player of the season, he would have only moved for a starting berth. But with Hughes, Jeff, Ahamada and Jairo we've got some depth there.

There is not a single player on that list that I look at and think they will strengthen us. We are shopping in the middle of Lidl. Nothing wrong with Lidl, you can get a cheeky Shiraz for 2.15 Euros, or a one litre carton, for the less discerning 89 cents
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I am more than happy if we are shopping there if that is the analogy. I suspect Doucoure, Eze, Anderson and Olise were all considered "Lidl" purchases at the time.

Having said that I agree with you that we don't need to be thinking in terms of buying a replacement this summer. he would miss the 1st 4 weeks of pre-season regardless of the injury as he's been playing and training up until late June. The lad needs a rest. Let's say 4 weeks rest and then the plan would have been to re-start pre-season maybe on Monday 31st July, 2 weeks before the season starts. So whilst the injury is terrible timing arguably the first 4 or 5 weeks (1 week since injury) will not impact his pre-season as he wouldn't be training anyway. He's only 21 so hopefully a fast healer and clubs have the best equipment to speed recovery e.g. oxygen tents, sound waves therapy etc. So no need to panic. However, if we start with Jeff and Ayew on the wings!!!
