Whole crowd giving the w***er sign & one person gives what looks like the slanty eye thing and he needs to be hunted down and punished for his sins.

The faux outrage is comical.

The mountains are calling & I must go.

Surely that crowbar is getting a little heavy by now

Arguably contributing reasons for incidents like this being bumped up the agenda are more nuanced than ‘globalisation’ and ‘mass migration’ which in every post you make seem to be the root cause of absolutely everything. Absolute broken record

1. Racism and violence used to be a constant in football. A lot of people have worked hard to reduce it. I don’t think they want it back - hence zero tolerance, headlines and examples being made, rightly, at every opportunity.

2. Football crowds have a pretty good selection of what politicians love to term ‘hard working folk’ - eg the non-elites, lower middle classes etc. ‘Real’ people. So when you see idiots feeling bold enough to partake in this sort of nonsense then you know the problem is still very much alive and kicking amongst the masses

3. It’s racist behaviour. So much try hard downplaying on here it’s unreal. Sure it’s low on the scale of ‘racism’, but does that make it acceptable and not racist? No.

Maybe I’m wrong and this sort of thing also frequently happens at the rugby.

If you don't see the relationship between certain issues and situations, then I'm not going to waste time explaining it to you for the hundredth time.

As I have said before. Racial taunting or insults are no different to any other antagonism. People have been programmed to think otherwise and encouraged to be easily offended rather than rise above it.
There is no comparison between racism in 2023 and in past decades. That is a positive, but the increasing mania surrounding race is definitely not. It is corrosive and divisive. It is, whether you want to hear it or not, a symptom of rapid demographic change and the politics and commercial aspects surrounding it.

I do hope the police have a whole team working full time on this. Surely at the high end of the scale of criminal offences in South London.

I'm not saying there isn't a relationship. I am saying it's more indirect than direct in this case, and therefore I'm just pointing out that this particular debate is more nuanced and derves better than your usual schtick, which is becoming lazy, predictable and repetitive. You always try and crowbar the same points into pretty much every thread – it's overly simplistic and ideologically driven. It isn't helpful or useful in this particular instance, and results in unnecessary deviation from the discussion.

The incredible phenomenon where the right make a bigger deal out of a topic than wider society, and then lament what a big deal this is being made into in wider society.

"The reaction is so excessive" while going on rants about globalism, elites and the new world order in response.

Even Palace talk is no longer safe from this s***e.

I think this probably should move to 'N&P' now. Somewhat inevitable but there you go.

It has it's place – but that place is not on every single thread, in every single post. It's intellectually dull and extremely boring to simply parrot the same stuff regardless of context.

I will say that there is a certain skill in tweaking it just enough each time. It's actually very effective at achieving the users aims – derail topical conversation and bring it back to the same narrow focus, then push the agenda.

I actually applaud the sanity and required... you usually only see this level of commitment and belief from religious people or politicians.

Maybe a fun exercise would be to create random threads and see how quickly those are brought back to mass immigration and elites.

I don't think we're ever too far from Offside being proposed as a mechanism for institutional racism or VAR being a globalist conspiracy...

All this passive aggressive nitpicking.....sound like bleeding old women.

There was no whining about putting a racism topic in Palace talk was there. In general on Hol people are always complaining about whether something is perfectly placed in a category....sometimes a little bit pedantically in my view.

It could be argued that 'racism' isn't really a pure football topic and is about crowd behaviour and only related to what goes on a pitch.

However, I find this complaining whenever a thread naturally develops ever slightly ridiculous.....this idea that as soon as someone strays off topic that the thread ends....just too anorak for me.

That most things come down to how a socially liberal society structures itself comes in for complaint amongst people on the right is hardly surprising. However, we could make the obvious point that the left are hardly creating original points themselves.
Always talking about racism themselves, attacking wealth, promoting equity, feminism and so on....Yet I doubt you chaps whine about those.....and somewhat ironically the whining is in itself repetitive.

It doesn't always naturally develop. That's the point. It's natural for you to bring it back to the same topics every time, regardless of thread, but not for everyone else. Sometimes your agenda is relevant, sometimes not. It's ironic you talk about bashing the pieces until they fit.

It's the same protagonists every time... You are one but not the worst.

Simply parachuting the same narrative and into every thread is beyond boring. The amount of times I've seen the same stuff repeated or rephrased to try and subvert threads is tiresome. This one included.

It's as though this site is being used as a coercion and conversion platform, whilst you reinforce your views within various other likeminded echo chambers elsewhere. The pattern is so observably pervasive that it's an approach the political class would be proud of – you lot have an agenda. Great. Sometimes it aids debate, sometimes it distracts. Knowing when it's more or less relevant to deploy is the key here.

Threads staying mainly on topic is literally the point – pretty sure it gets called out by mods when things deviate.

And yes it's not lost on me that the tactics have worked again here, so

Was this a racist gesture? Yes

Is there a zero tolerance policy to racism in football? Yes

Should the perpetrator be made an example of as a result? Yes

Is there more media frenzy over these incidents because of footballs past? Yes

Is making a racist gesture or being racist equivalent to calling someone a w***er? No

Is general use of aggressive profanity and bellendery within crowds acceptable? No

Is it possible to have the same level of passion and engagement without extremes of the above? Yes

Look forward to seeing someone in the Holmesdale end spotted making a gesture attacking wealth or promoting feminism
