1. Yup too many gangster movies mind you most councils are run like... 2. Not picking on Labour in particular but I don't understand when parties make statements about house building. They say we will build X number.... but it's a promise they can't keep. Local councils and people will often fight these plans and win. The government isn't actually the one doing the building it's private companies who will only do it if they see a profit. In short there are too many others parties involved which is why most government house building pledges fail. Edited by Badger11 (14 Oct 2023 8.21pm)

I remember going to a pre-season friendly at CPNSC in 1968? versus West Ham and thinking this is where the club should play permanently. But that dream is no nearer now than it was then, 55 years ago. As you say, maybe some day for a future generation? I'm with you, it's the logical and historical place. Wasn't to be....Maybe someday.

This. It's been stated countless times why it is not a viable solution, I'm amazed that it's still being brought up. Agree, this ship sailed many moons ago. It may be our true home, but as we haven't been based there for over 100 years, best to move on. Incidentally, i used to live a mile or so from the Park so am well aware of the transport limitations. Once i went to a basketball game there , attended by less than 500 people. However, the traffic queues to get in were horrendous. Can you image if we upped it by 50 times.

Mind you that was in the 60s and I went on my bike.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I went to a few back in the 80s and I don't remember any serious traffic issues. The bottom line is that the Nimbys will delay any project in the park for years and the cost of upgrading the local infrastructure will be enormous. We would be better off buying up the houses behind the Arthur Waite and putting a huge stand there. The question is, how bigger capacity does the club need? Apart from one game, it has never had a crowd bigger than 45k as far as I can recall. 40k would probably do. Parking has always been my biggest complaint when attending a game. Where the ground is actually located is not that important. A nice big car park for match days would be very welcome however.

I seem to remember that when the plans were being unveiled there was talk of it being a 2 stage upgrade, from 25 - 33,000 & then from 33,000 to 40,000 (ish) if we remained in the PL & the crowd / season ticket & Corporate demand proved to be there. I may be wrong as it was an article from quite a few years ago. Originally posted by Hrolf The Ganger

It is just a matter of time, money and the limitations of the local area. If Parish only achieves our stay in this league, the stand and the academy, then he will have done more than any other chairman has. Noades did OK, Bloye was a disaster and undid all the good work done by Arthur Waite in a very short time. Jordan didn't have enough money for his ambitions, and we shouldn't even mention Goldberg.

If we tried to move back to the park they would be looking for a handout for this. I was at the park today to attend Physiotherapy in the Jubilee stand which is part of the athletics stadium. The place is a wreck and the rest of the park is not much better.

It was dilapidated 20-30 years ago - let alone now. I get the feeling this all came up under Jordan or Goldberg. Whenever this thread comes up I seem to laugh. Perhaps a bit unfair of me, I'm sure we'll do it eventually.

The problem with the park (as well as the well organised local Nimbys) is that it is owned by Bromley council which is right in the corner of the borough so not many Bromley residents use it. It is expensive and so the limited resources will be spent elsewhere. I believe the diving pool is empty with no plans to fix the issue, and the lovely little zoo (remember the flamingos) closed down years ago. The dinosaurs are looking in desperate need to TLC. Others have looked at the park (Noades even draw up provisional plans i think) and have backed down . SP did likewise and was told it's a non starter.

I used to live near CP Park and remember athletics being on a lot of the time with full attendance-parking was a bit of a strain when these events were held but manageable then, but probably not today. Also remember motor racing there which was very noisy for nearby residents. My major memory is hearing a loud explosion and running over to the park with my friend to witness what we later learnt was the “You’re only meant to blow the bloody doors off!” scene from the original Italian Job. Good memories and sad to hear of the demise of the old place…
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

What he didn't agree on was they wanted to limit the capacity to 30 thousand and he said no we require minimum 35 to start with this was rejected. The stories he told mentioned about the current stadium as well and regulations also the council mess about always wanting more money not allowing to do what you want. The Govt was going to be pumping in a large amount of money to upgrade the athletics at this location it appears now they are pulling out of it but this would have been the best time to jump on in cut a deal once Govt is involved it doesn't matter about locals or councils. Money speaks at the end of the day if we was owned by a wealthy say Arab the stadium would be built. The delays have cost the club a lot of money already on just this new stand and no we wont be able to add more in the future look at all the issues they have had to bump up capacity by not even 10 thousand the area cant handle it this was one of the main arguments/push backs from council. Transport network is awful as well.
