Nicely swerved! But in terms of her appointment...depends what you want from a Labour Government. My own take on it is that the primary aim of any Starmer led Government will be around reversing Brexit with any and everything else secondary. And this lady will play a crucial part in that happening. But I also concede I can be a paranoid lunatic, seeing Rejoiners around each and every corner so that must be taken into account. However, Starmer is a 100% bought and paid for Washington/Deep State stooge. So no matter what, I suspect there will be nothing major in terms of wider UK-specific structural politics changing. Maybe a bit more froth, a few more bows on various political packages and a Left who will just happily ignore all kinds of things if it comes with a Labour branding because all they define themselves as, in the majority, is being anti-Tory rather than anything else. Edited by Matov (04 May 2023 8.05pm) It is blindingly obvious that reversing Brexit is against the interests of Washington.

We have a major European war fought on the basis of Washington fearing how strong both Germany and Russia might become if they were allowed to buy and sell gas from each other. And a strong Germany means a strong EU. Washington threw the kitchen sink at keeping us in the EU. Or have you forgotten Obama's intervention? Went against all accepted diplomatic protocol. Brexit helped Trump. Undoubtably. But he is not Washington. And Capitol Hill very much wants the UK back in Brussels, throwing all kinds of spanners into the works.

How's your reply on support for the EHRC report on anti semitism and condemnation of the Guardian cartoon coming along?
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I am on topic, and the problem with Sir Keir is not his seeming lack of policies and because he is a lawyer. It's his haircut, it reminds me of some character out of Dickens but I can't think who. Sunak's is rubbish too. Smarmy haircuts, Sunak looks like an asian ted with drainpipes and pointed shoes. When he turns a corner, you think he will go straight on.

I have just thought:- Wilkins Micawber. (David Copperfield) Welcome poverty!..Welcome misery, welcome houselessness, welcome hunger, rags, tempest, and beggary! Mutual confidence will sustain us to the end! Something, (in short) will turn up! He knew far more than the Adam Smith Institute.

He saw the scale of the act of self harm But the US loves the idea that the UK is becoming even more captive to its economy. And it is grooming Ireland to be its EU bridgehead. Doesn’t need the UK to do that any more
