Agree with this 100%. Doucoure is a decent but the skillset isn't that hard to replace and his quality in the final third was questionable at times. He added solidity and consistency once he had a good coach. I don't subscribe to the "doing it all on his own" chat that was regularly thrown out last season although he benefitted from Roy's better organisation. I wouldn’t agree about his skillset being easy to replace. He is a class act.

I might be wrong about but I thought Lerma was brought in to replace Doucoure. They’re similar players when you think about it. Having them both on the pitch means we don’t play with a box-to-box midfielder like Hughes/Ahamada (Schlupp is now back up front, where he belongs?) But we don’t need to sell on the cheap - if ‘pool want him the price is £75m+ if you ask me. And some stats in this Tweet Edited by Aray (19 Aug 2023 7.43am)

Lerma was in my opinion bought to compliment Doucoure. By playing two midfielders who can break up play, it releases Eze to have a free role through the middle. It also allows either/or Lerma or Doucoure to make the occasional move forward. I don’t think it’s any surprise that we looked solid in midfield against Sheffield because of the two playing together.

They could both play together but if Doucoure did leave they had a ready made replacement.

The reality is …… if indeed Liverpool offer £70m for the player, it would be madness to turn it down!!! It’s reported he wants to join Liverpool - and who could blame him! I’m sure Dougie will have drawn up a number of possible replacements - at a far reduced fee. We hate it, as he is a real asset to the club, but that’s football

We need to keep him like we need to keep the other core players. If the timing is right and they do well this season their collective value can only increase. Edited by southnorwoodhill (19 Aug 2023 10.52am)

Which is pretty fashionable now. City play it. It basically means we now play a 4-2-3-1. Which will help us to maintain and build possession, and also allows Eze a bit more freedom. From his Bournemouth exploits (and against Sheffield) Lerma seams to be the one that will have a little more licence.
