A good point deserved mainly because of the effort the lads put in. We finished strongly. Definitely had more control once Hughes came on. He’s a leader and future captain if he stays fit and PV decides he likes him. We were better going forward with Ayew wide left rather than Zaha. Might be a good thing if he has a rest for a few weeks. Richards really solid at the back. I wonder if we might play 3 at the back when Anderson is fit. Still issues up front. Mateta looked better today than against Manure. Edouard looked too slow with the ball at his feet.

No more 433 with this squad.
We continually leave our full backs exposed and Newcastle are the latest team to exploit the vast spaces down the sides.
There must have been about 20 crosses in, but fortunately their finishing or crosses were left wanting.
I know we drew and there were some good performances, but I do feel a 451 or 442 would suit our current squad better and enable us to compete across the width of the field.
If we had pacy full backs and better options in midfield perhaps 433 could work, but we have to accept we can't play like City or Arsenal with the current players.

Agree entirely. Always play 442 unless there is a good reason not to. We have four wingers. 442 is a given.

Please can we spend some money? Yes, I know it will not be mine. Why are we always SO BORING in the transfer window?

Given Newcastle's EXCELLENT defense, our two good chances (Richards and Mateta) could have sufficed. On defense, we were vulnerable but we might have looked better if Clyne had played the entire game. Ward is a gamer and pro, but he was the catalyst for countless Newcastle attacks.

I thought PV managed well, given our 3rd game in 6 days. I love Eze but wonder what goes through his mind when he sees the work rate of players like Ayew and Richards (and Macca, back in the day).

Newcastle haven’t conceded a goal in the PL for 961 minutes. So no surprise we didn’t create much today. Good point well earned.

Make that 541 minutes. Too many pints.

I'm convinced Howe encourages his players to be sneaky and look for free kicks. We seemed to be unfairly on the wrong end of too many decisions.

Unfortunately we're still not enough of a threat going forward, but we hung on and looked more like getting a result at the end than they did. We want to see more of that earlier in the game.

Too much unwarranted criticism of Ward on here, but I thought he made a reasonable contribution today. Richards is looking better each time he plays.

Overall I'll take a point from these league topper wannabes.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This was a good performance, fighting and together against one of the super rich sides.

Respect the point.

At the bottom now Bournemouth Everton and Soton look very average and we have a margin of 7/8 points.

And we haven't scored a goal in the PL from open play in 630 minutes. At West Ham on November 6 was the last time.

Anyone else think we played better when Zaha was still subbed off? We looked more of a threat upfront.

Clean sheet, a well earned point. Eze once again ineffectual, a lengthy start on the bench for him, Schlupp again not good enough for the role assigned, but nevertheless respect the point.

Eze was voted 3rd best Palace by the BBC audience, he was the only player who looked lightly to play a creative pass, Edouard, Wilf and Schlupp were absolutely terrible, Richards, played well, but know heads went down, and but from a world class save from Pope from Mateta we could have nicked it

Happy with a point, ref wasn’t great and was inconsistent throughout. Could have sent Trippier off if he followed the letter of the law. Want to see Richards at right back when Andersen is fit again.

Incredible, bring Olise and Hughes on and all of a sudden we are competing in the middle of the park. Mateta could have bagged a brace tonight, but it wasn’t to be…
